‘Well what if’

‘No thank you.’

She looked at Shane for help.

Shane took a step back and motioned for Bette to move to her other side.

‘She’s not interested so maybe you could just move on.’

‘Thanks Shane, I don’t know why I panicked.’

‘I think we both know, you have to relax Bette.’

‘Do you think Tina saw her?’

‘I don’t think so, she’s talking to Alice about something.’

She had noticed all right, she noticed the familiar way the woman touched Bette and the smile on Bette’s face when she turned around.

‘Alice who is that woman talking to Bette?’

‘I’ve never seen her before.’

‘Bette’s talking to her, she must know her.’

‘Tina what’s going on?’

‘Can’t she see Bette has on a ring, doesn’t that mean anything?’

For once Alice was speechless.

‘Alice why are you looking at me like that?’

Alice reached over and tapped Tina’s ring finger, ‘I think rings are meant to be worn in pairs.  You took yours off when you left Bette.’

‘What are saying Alice, that she can see other people since I took my ring off?’

‘Have the two of you talked about that?  I mean you keep telling her you don’t know if you’ll ever be able to take her back.’

As Bette and Shane were coming back to the table with the drinks Tina looked at Alice and said, ‘Excuse me’ and headed for the restroom.

Bette decided to go see Kit while Tina was gone.

Alice and Shane caught each other up and Shane headed for the restroom to talk to Tina.

Meanwhile, Kit and Bette were talking about Bette’s trip to Chicago and how Bette felt the weekend with Tina had gone.  Kit told her Tina was feeling better about things with Bette and felt the weekend had been positive.

Shane reached the restroom as Tina was coming out.

‘Tina we need to talk.’

‘I need to leave Shane.’

‘Will you just listen?’

‘I can’t stay Shane, please ask Bette not to try to find me.’

She kissed Shane on the cheek and left.
