I Need My Best Friend – Part 5

    Chapter Five

    Friday Morning

Bette watched as the morning light crept across the room.  Something she had done each morning since Tina left her.  However, this morning it wasn’t because sleep had failed her.  She had slept better last night than she had in a very long time.  She woke this morning rested, hopeful and with a new calm.  She had almost lost it yesterday, letting her insecurity take control.  She was proud of the way she had finally opened up to Tina in their conversation last night.  She was comforted by Tina’s comment that they would make the decision together about their future.  Up to this point she had felt Tina had all the control.  She was finally realizing that she didn’t need to be totally submissive just because she wasn’t controlling everything.  Maybe finding a middle ground was the answer, a way to relinquish control that didn’t make her feel weak, just human.  She needed Tina; how did she ever let herself believe that made her weak.

Unlike Bette Tina hadn’t slept well at all.  She was seeing a change in Bette that only served to confuse her own feelings.  She was failing to heed her own advice and take things slow, as friends.  Her thoughts of Bette after they talked last night had given her hope that they could resolve things.  She still loved Bette but felt if she didn’t keep things on track they would be a train wreck waiting to happen.  They had too much to work through for her to get ahead of herself.

The day had flown by for Bette.  She thought of Tina often but didn’t let herself go through every ‘what if’ scenario she could dream up.  She knew she would see Tina tomorrow and they would continue working through all the things that ended up strangling their relationship.

Kit stopped by with lunch and invited her to come with her tonight to check out a new club.  She really didn’t want to go out, but she wasn’t in the mood to spend another empty night at home.

Tina was on her way to meet the girls and decided to swing by the house.  She hadn’t spoken to Bette since last night and just wanted to check in.  She was standing on the porch trying to decide whether to knock or use her keys.  Lost in her thoughts she didn’t realize Bette was standing in the doorway.

    1. Good job! It’s nice to see both growing up… especially Bette. I love this scenario.. the middle ground compare to the rest of the series, not that the other series aren’t possible scenarios. I think this one is still not ignoring the fact that the cheating had happened but still not hysterically dramatic. It’s good. I love it. Good job!

    2. This was an excellent read! I think honest communication is the essence of all relationships and Bette & and Tina are doing just that..and you, asalways, are doing a wonderful job telling it..thanks!

    3. I have been waiting for another installment and it didn’t disappoint. Love the direction you are going in. Please keep up the good work.

    4. I am enjoying this story,I am aware that there is another one up right now fielding the same time and how they are adapting to the seperation. The other one is more Harsh with Tina with her attitude and Bette just coming off a pity party. Yours is more in the middle and it is much softer for Tina and Bette. I don’t believe Tina would of gotten in to a relationship that quickly after the seperation, and I don’t think that bette would of fallen that low, just not her style. For Bette to have a one night thing at there house is not believeable either. I believe that Bette would have much more respect for Tina to do that, and to invite some one to dinner for the chance of things to esculate. So I like yours Better more to my thoughts. Thanks
