ICU Unit :

Days passed with Bette not coming to. Tina was beginning to lose hope, till today. She came in like she did many other days before, with breakfast, her tummy continued to grow as well as her cravings. She smiled and pulled out the newspaper and began to read to Bette about what was going around in the world. The T.V was on low, when Tina felt it. She had her seat close to the bed, with her hand outstretched grasping Bettes. Tina stopped in mid sentence , when she felt Bettes hand tighten around hers. Tina looked up surprised, as Bette made more movement. She tossed her head and slowly opened her eyes.

Tina was incomplete shock. Dr. Harris She shouted. Bette turned her head when she heard Tina yell. Her brown eyes locked onto Tinas. Tina felt trapped in the same familiar gaze she fell in love with so long ago. Seconds later Dr. Harris arrived, with a questioning look on her face.

Whats wrong?

Bettes awake! Tina gestured towards Bette with tears of happiness streaming down her face.

Whos Bette? Bette thought silently.

Dr. Harris took on a look of surprise , as she walked over to Bette. Hi Bette, do you know where you are She asked. Bette gave no response. She began checking her vital signs, everything seemed fine.

Bette started to panic, as she tried to sit up. Immediately she felt a sharp pain shoot up her sides. Where Im I ? Why Im I here? Why Im I in pain? Bette thought.

Dr. Harris and Tina noticed Bette struggling. Tina walked over to Bette and gently put her hand on Bettes shoulder pushing her back down to the bed. Almost instantly Tinas touch seemed to calm her. Bette didnt know why, but it just did. Dr. Harris had seen the exchange from the side and smiled.

Bette can you tell me where you are? She asked again as she leaned over and checked Bettes pupils. I dont know Bette answered . In all honesty she didnt . Tina began to felt that familiar fear creep back into her heart again.

Can you tell me who you are? She asked again with hope.

Bette sat in thought for a minute Who Im I?

Tina come here Dr. Harris gestured towards Bette.

Tina walked over to the bed, wondering what this doctor was up to. Can you tell me who this woman is Bette?

Bette looked at Tina and felt something familiar about her presence, but other than that she was drawling up blanks. She began to take in her appearance. Tina looked beautiful, she wore a blue navy long sleeve shirt that stretched over her very pregnant tummy, her blonde hair was pulled loosely in a ponytail, her eyes looking very green, and she wore black sweatpants with some white sneakers. She looks stunning. Bette thought silently.

Tina could feel Bettes eyes roaming over her and she felt tiny butterflies in her stomach. Im I suppose to? Bette asked. Bette was starting to get scared. I dont know you people, why Im I here? She panicked, once again trying to get up. Another bolt of pain went through her body, this timed she ignored it. Now Bette your going to have to calm down, and listen to me ok Dr. Harris said in a stern voice.

You were in a car accident, ok?. You sustained major damage to your brain and broke a few ribs, causing you to lose your memory which is why you are in a hospital. Dr. Harris said calmly. Can you tell me anything that you remember?

Bette wasnt sure how to answer that ,she looked up at Tinas sad eyes. Something spoke to her that she couldnt explain, so she did something that she wanted to do. She held Tinas hand. Bette need anything familiar to hold on to. Tina felt Bette grab her hand, and tried to give a reassuring smile. Its ok Bette. The truth was she didnt remember anything, herself, these people, and this hospital. Nothing. No I dont remember anything, I dont even know who Im. The truth hit Tina like a flying baseball, She doesnt even remember me, Tina thought as tears came to her eyes.

Guys I have to go, I was just paged, I will be back shortly, just let the nurse know if you need anything. Disappointment was evident in Dr. Harriss voice as she turned and quietly closed the door.
I dont know her, or this place. Bette thought, she had tons of questions swarming through her head. She tried to sort them out but really , it was no use.

I have to go Tina said as turned to leave feeling her energy start to slip away. She was emotionally drained. Please dont go Bette said, Tina could hear the fear in her voice. Im scared, I dont know who Im Bette spoke with tears in her eyes. Tina looked deep into Bettes eyes, she knew the Bette she once knew was in there some where. Before Tina could say something Bette spoke. I look at you and I feel something familiar, I feel home and I dont know why.

There was a long silence. Tina swallowed hard, and gave Bettes hand a light squeeze. Please talk to me , tell me who I am, tell me my name, anything maybe why Im here. Bette pleaded. She smiled when she saw Tina take a seat. Your name is Bette Porter and your the love of my life. Tina said slowly as she watched for Bettes reaction.

My names Bette, huh interesting, and we were in love? Bette gave a small approving smile.

Yes we were, very much, we have been married for seven years. Tina said with a smile.

So how did you get this little one here? Bette asked gesturing towards Tinas belly.

We decided to do try to get pregnant with a sperm donor. And I found out that its going to be a girl. Tina smiled brightly.

Bette listened intently, as she took in all this information. It was indeed a lot to take in, but she had to know about this beautiful woman sitting in front of her.

Even though it hurt Tina to know Bette didnt remember anything of her life, she continued to talk to her, reveling memories of her own of when they were together, laughing along the way. She knew it would be a long journey for her and Bette and there would be dark days. But for the first time in awhile she could sleep, and she felt like she could conquer anything to get (Her Bette back).
