    Chapter 17

    The first month after I told Bette we couldn’t see one another seemed to fly by. I met with Steve and transferred her case and took the case from him that he wasn’t making progress with. No wonder he wasn’t making progress. I try to find the good in all clients but this one was a true maniac. I dreaded our weekly sessions because he taxed my last nerve. He had problems, that was without question but he was just obnoxious in the most obnoxious ways. He was a 40 year old trying to live like a 21 year old fraternity boy. He would sit in my office and burp waiting for me to laugh at his manliness. His passing gas on demand caused me to stock up on air freshener. He was someone that I could find little to no positives about and thankfully, his insurance stopped authorizing services and he refused to pay out of pocket. His leaving my caseload was cause for me to almost dance on my desk.

    I had not seen Bette during that time apart. Shane had seen her a couple times at The Planet but I still avoided going there so I had not run into her. It was easier that way for me. My feelings were still intense and I didn’t need that temptation.

    Shane and I went out a couple times. We had gone to Santa Monica and she tried to get me to go home with a woman that I met and danced with but I couldn’t. I wasn’t attracted to her and I wasn’t looking for just the ability to say that I had slept with someone. Shane seemed so disappointed but I think that was because she wanted to go home with the friend. I encouraged her to go and that I would take a cab back to the hotel but she wouldn’t hear of it. She and I went back to the hotel and sat out by the pool drinking beer and talking. I know it wasn’t how she wanted the evening to end but by my standards, it was a great evening.

    I went home and spent time with Mom and Dad which was really good. I hadn’t planned to go but my aunt and uncle were having an anniversary party and Mom sent me a ticket if I wanted to come home for the weekend. I went and had a fabulous time. Dad and I played golf and talked about all that was going on in my life. He didn’t try to be anything other than supportive. When I beat him, which was the first time in my life, his pride in me could have allowed me to throw anything out there and he would have been fine with it. Mom and I spent time together in her kitchen and she asked a zillion questions about my quest to find out if I was gay or not. Unfortunately, I didn’t have too many answers for her. Not much had changed for me to tell her. I did tell her about my conversation with Bette and she felt that was promising. I hung out some with my cousin who was so straight laced that she really made me nervous at times. She kept telling me that she prayed for me since I lived in such a sin filled place. If she only knew of the sins I wanted to be a part of. I felt it best to keep that to myself. If and when the time was right to tell her, she would either accept it or not. I could care less which choice she made regardless of my familial ties to her. She never opened herself to understand anything that was not in her realm of thought.

    13. Two months did seem a long time, but in one sense it was about right. I am glad that they ran into each other if only for Dana and Alice to meet. Now at least Tina is rethinking the August 23rd time line.

    14. Good thing Bette and Tina ran into each other and had such a good time talking. I for one think a month is more than enough time to wait before getting together for a date ir just getting to know each other. PPS

    23. I love how you intergrated Dana into the story. It will be interesting to read their coming out adventures. I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for Bette and Tina have a proper date. Great update.

    25. Oh my goodness I just had the day/evening from hell and to find this story, then read it was such a welcome treat!!! Well if it were in a work situation, I’d probably be freaking out if the target date got pushed up, but in this situation…oh who am I kidding, I’m freaking out now too – but in a good way…this is SO awesome, can’t wait for that phone call ;)

    29. at first when i read your intro.. i was pissed… oh no she had tina meet another woman… but so glad it was dana… and now maybe alice and dana will hook up… it sure looks that way… and i am also glad tina said what she said… now bette can call her when tina sleeps off her hangover she will be having in the morning… love this story… PPS
