Il Mare
Chapter 3
On her way to work, Tina thought of Bette.
“Maybe we should introduce ourselves properly.” Tina said thinking out loud which was mistaken by the guy sitting beside her as a pick up line. He gave Tina the once over and smiled at her. Tina looked at him and apologized before standing up and getting off the next bus stop. It was not her stop just yet but the embarrassment she felt almost made her want to jump out of the moving bus in an instant.
Ok. Let’s try this again. I am a doctor dedicated to curing the sick. Or at least that’s what I am trying to be.
I’m an architect. I like to build. Not that I would say that my current project is ideal but I like it because it brings me here. In this place and it allows me to live in this house.
But tell me something, if you’re in the city now, where are you right now, in my time?
Two years ago which is your time, I am working at the local hospital there.
Tell me about the future, what is it like in 2010?
Well it is pretty much the same. Except that people wear shiny metal things and the cars can fly. Also, no one talks anymore because we can read each other’s mind. Have you seen Back To The Future? It’s pretty much like that. Who knew right?
But the truth is, my pen pal from the past, not much has changed from 2008. Speaking of the past though I have been thinking about the paw prints… How is that possible?
I think we have the same dog.
Oh yeah? What’s yours like? According to my vet my dog is 8 years old, 6 in yours. She’s skinny with sad eyes and she sleeps like a person. I don’t know why but I call her Jack.
Bette was in a recliner while reading Tina’s letter. She looked at her dog. They do have the same dog.
“Hello Jack.” Bette called out and Jack stood at attention. Bette laughed.
Tina was doing her rounds checking in on her patients. After work, she took the letters she got from her last visit to the lake house and proceeded to reply to them.

Hey Bombastically, And so begins a beautiful romance. I hope you continue soon as this is just a wonderfully written piece. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
What a lovely story! I’m caught up in their romance.
I just caught on to this story. I´m not familiar with the movie, but am looking very much forward to how your story unfolds.
Brilliant, PPS!
Hey thanks for posting! Just this morning I was thinking about this story.. :-)Glad to read them again… A bit curious even from the time when i watched the movie, why none of them ever think of using Jack to time travel so they can meet up :-D
Really like this story but I am mystified. How can they be living in a time warp only two years difference in time. Must search for this movie, never heard of it before so hope I can find it. Great update. Thanks for posting.
Brilliant update. thank you.
