    Il Mare

    Chapter 6

Bette retrieved the letter from the mailbox and was surprised at what she read.

I went to Il Mare and you were not there. You didn’t come.

    That’s impossible!

It was possible. I was there and you were not!

I don’t understand. Something might have happened for me not to be there. I’ve got two years, Tee. We can try again.

No. We tried it and it did not work. I can’t do this again.

Don’t give up on me, Tina. Give me another chance.

Life is not a fairy tale, Bette. We don’t have too many chances and it can be over in a second. I was having lunch with my mother last Valentine’s Day and a woman was killed right in front of me. She died in my arms and I thought it can’t end like that on a Valentine’s Day. And I thought about all the people who loved her. Who will never see her again. And then I thought, what if there’s no one? What if she was living alone? So I drove up to the lake house to look for answers and I found you. And I let myself get lost. Lost in this beautiful fairy tale where time stood still. But it’s not real, Bette. I have got to start living my life. My reality. Please don’t write anymore. Don’t find me. Let me let go.

Bette continued writing but never got a reply. That was it. It was the end of the greatest story of her life. It was the end of a beautiful relationship even before it was given a chance to start.

She had to move on. First, she has to get out of this place. She packed her belongings and placed all of the letters she and Tina exchanged in a box and left it in the attic. Maybe it was time to take Kit up on her offer and start Visionary Vanguard.

Tina on the other hand had moved on. She tried to move on with her life and went back to Helena.

“What do you think of this space?” Tina asked Helena.

    “It’s a bit dark.”

“Yeah but we will have this remodeled.”

“Why are we even looking at this space?” Helena asked.
