    Chapter 1

Tina just finished her final check of the house before she proceeded to the door. With one last look, she said goodbye to the house she has dreamt of living in and finally was able to. It was too far away from the city where she found a job at the city hospital so she had to let go. She always loved this house. The way it was built in stilts on the lake. How she was able to admire the sunset right on the comfort of her couch. And last but not the least, how nature sings her a lullaby every night before she falls into a deep slumber. Yes, she loved this house, very much so. One might say. But she had to let go. The seclusion was not doing her any good. The solace was good for her spirit but in a way the solidarity is isolating her heart to anyone else who may want to comfort her. Love her even.

“Jack” Tina called out to her dog followed by a whistle. “Come on, let’s go.”

With Jack in tow she left the house but not before leaving a note for the new tenant on the mailbox.

    Dear New Tenant,

I hope you enjoy your stay in the lake house. I filed a change of address in the local post office but you know how that can be. I am the previous tenant before you and I would greatly appreciate it if you can forward mails that were sent to me in this address to my new one.

PS – The paw prints are already there when I rented the house. Same with the box in the attic.

Bette just arrived at the lake house. She took her things inside and looked around. It was still as beautiful as she remembered it to be. She had always dreamt of owning it. Looking around she saw its prospect and what she can do to make this good house an even greater one. She proceeded to put her things and went to the mailbox after. She did notice that the flag on it was raised indicating she had mail. Considering she just moved in, it would not hurt for her to check. She opened the mailbox and was surprised at what she saw. She read Tina’s mail and had to chuckle. She then proceeded inside the house to compose a reply.

    Dear Ms. Kennard,

I don’t know what joke you are trying to pull but I think you got the wrong date. You are two years ahead. From what I know nobody lived here for a very long time. You must have this mistaken for the house by the shore.

    Bette Porter

PS – I don’t see any paw prints nor a box in the attic. Trust me, I checked.
