    I’M NOT SCARED, ANYMORE. pt.2

“Are you okay Dane?” a voice said, snapping me out of my day dream. I looked over and was greeted by the concerned face of my fiancee, Tonya.

“Yea, I’m fine.” I mumbled convincingly.

But the truth was, I wasn’t. Ever since me and Alice’s kiss, my head had been so scrambled. I mean, up until then I had never thought of me and her…as a couple. I mean, I had always had a little crush on Alice. It was something about the way she carried herself, and how excited she always got when she was trying to explain something. And then of course she was gorgeous and she had a great body. But she was my best friend! I mean, this was Alice. But that kiss…it was really something.

“Tonya, I’m just gonna go for a walk. I’ll be back later.” I said quickly, excusing myself from her and walking off.

“Okay honey. See you later.” her shrill voice bounced off the walls as I walked off and shut the door.

Where was I going, I had no idea. It had been several days since the night Alice and I had kissed we hadn’t spoken since then. She had been so embaressed that night and I couldn’t understand why. I mean, yes it was bad timing, but I was glad it happened. I had always had feelings for her and the fact that I had enjoyed the kiss, confirmed it. I had to go over and talk to her. As I drove over to her house I tryed to figure out what I should say to her. I mean, if Alice was being Alice, she wouldn’t want them to talk about it. She would be evasive and talk about everything except that night.

As I walked up to her intercom I was so nervous I thought about leaving, but then I pulled myself together and ran the intercom.

“Yea.” Alice said. God, just the sound of her voice was sending chills down my spine.

“Al? Um, can I come up?” I asked, trying desperately to keep my voice from shaking. My question was followed by a long pause. *****! She wasn’t gonna let me up. I was about to turn around and walk away when I heard a buzz, telling me that she was letting me up. I quickly smoothed my shorts and took a deep breath as I stood in front of the door. Suddenly it opened, making me jump, and there stood Alice. She was a gorgeous as ever. As she stepped aside to let me in, I rushed by so I could avoid her deep dark brown eyes.

“So whats going on?” she asked casually. God, how could she be so calm when I was so nervous?

“Um, Al, what are we?” I asked. Man, what a stupid question. Is that the best you can do, Dana Fairbanks? What are you, some kind of idiot?

    “Best friends.” Alice answered cautiously.

“Well, thats what I thought too up until that night. I mean, Al, we can’t…we shouldn’t…I’m engaged. Look, obviously we are attracted to each other. We just have to make sure that we don’t get ourselves into situations that would force us to become more attracted to each other than we already are.” I said slowly.

“Okay, well we should probably make sure we aren’t alone anywhere for sure. And you can’t come anywhere near me after just working out when your veins are popping out and stuff and your sweating.” she said.

“You like that?” I questioned. My mouth dropped open. Tonya had always hated that. God, just that fact that Alice liked that turned me on. “Well…you can’t wear those shirts anymore.” I said shyly.

    “What shirts?” she asked.

“You know, those ones that cling to you in some places and fall off you in other places.” I said. Man, just thinking about it was making me wanna jump her. I mean, as if it wasn’t awkward enough, she had to be there wearing one of “those shirts” right now.

“So about the kiss Dane.” Alice said, snapping me back to reality.

“That kiss sure was something, Al.” I whispered.

Before I could even think of something else to say, Alice pulled me in for a kiss. Oh God, just the feel of her lips on mine made me crave more. Tonya never had this effect on me. Even Lara, who I had really liked, had nothing on Al. Al was something! As her tongue entered my mouth, I melted. Then suddenly, she pulled away with tears in her eyes.

“Al, are you okay?” I asked, concerned.

    “I’m fine.” she said.

“No you’re not sweetie, you’re crying. What’s wrong?” I asked, brushing away her tears. Wow, she was even more beautiful crying. All I wanted to do was hold her in my arms forever and never let her go, but I knew I couldn’t do that.

As she pushed me away, I felt my heart break. She didn’t want me. This whole thing had been a mistake. Dammit!

“Look, why are you doing this? Why are you ***** with my brain like this?” she said, furiously.

I felt tears sting my eyes as I got up and walked over to her. How could she think I wasn’t being truthful? I had so many true feelings swarming around in my head right now I didn’t even know where to begin.

“Alice, I can’t believe that you think I’m playing you! How could you even say that?” I said, my voice shaking uncontrollably.

“I’ve never felt this way about anyone before but you’re ***** engaged.” she hissed.

As I stepped towards her and took her hands in mine, I stared intently into those beautiful brown eyes and hers.

“I have never felt this way about anyone before either and I mean that. We will figure this out, don’t worry.” I whispered.

She smiled and we kissed once more. I felt like I could kiss her everyday for the rest of my life. All I wanted was to be with her, but I couldn’t leave Tonya. I loved her. Didn’t I?

“I gotta go. I’ll call you later.” I said abruptly.

    “Okay.” she said smiling.

“Bye Al.” I said, before letting her go.

As I drove back to the house that Tonya and I shared, I couldn’t help but wonder, what was I gonna do. I had a huge decision to make and something told me that the next few weeks were going to be the longest, hardest weeks of my life.
