Chapter 27

Out in the hallway they run into Emily and the kids, she is smiling.
What are you smiling about? Tina asks.
I ran into Joanna and Jeffrey down in the lobby, they told me what happened. Emily says.
Thanks to you. Tina says and smiles.
I know what its like, or at least I have seen it before. My best friend is a *****, and she had the same problem with her family. It just tears me up, when people dont give them a chance. Emily says. Bette and Tina nods.
They leave, Bette and Tina head back to the hotel to rest up a bit before driving to Tinas parents house. Tina is a bit nervous, she hadnt been there for 8 years, and it was the worst day shes ever had.
It is four hours till dinner.
Hey, why dont you show me around town, get your mind off of things? Lets just hang out, what do you say? Bette asks.
Yeah, I would love that. Tina replies.
They bring their bags and jackets and leave the hotel.
Theyre walking down the main street, Tina is talking and pointing.
The hotel is actually on Campus of my old University. And that restaurant was my favorite. I used to come here with Eric and some friends. Tina says and points cross the road to the other side.
So wheres you high school? Bette asks curiously.
Oh, thats down on the other end of town. We have to drive by there when were going to my parents. You can see it then. Tina says.
They walk in silence for a little while. Tina is taking it all in, and Bette sees that Tina has missed this place. Its like shes finally home. Bette grabs Tinas hand.
Are you tired of walking? Bette asks
No, not yet, Ill let you know. Tina says and smiles.
Youve missed this place havent you? Bette asks as she takes a seat at a bench, she pulls Tina with her down.
I never thought I would, but now that Im here, I Yeah I have missed it. Tina replies.
Yeah, I can see it in your eyes, its like youre finally home. Bette says and looks at Tina. Tina turns to Bette and takes her hand up too Bettes face.
No, my home is with you. My home is where you are, nowhere else. Okay? Tina says. Bette nods her head. Tina leans onto Bettes shoulder and they sit on the bench for a long time.
Maybe we should think about getting back to the hotel, we only have an hour left. Bette says. Tina stands up, so does Bette. They walk back to the hotel.
Tina is going through her wardrobe, but cant seem to find a proper outfit.
Bette? Could you help me choose an outfit? Tina asks. Bette walks in from the bathroom.
Sure, lets see, what did you bring? Bette says as she goes through Tinas suitcase. Tina takes a seat at the bed, watching Bette work.
How about this one? Bette asks and holds up a dark purple tight dress. I love you in this one, its simple but you look great in it, it shows your every curve. Bette says as she smiles. Or, these pants with this shirt and a scarf or something. And you hair up. Bette says and takes a seat next to Tina.
Id go for the pants and the shirt. Tina says.
Okay, Ill get them for you. Bette says and jumps off and gets the clothes.
Tina undresses and takes on the clothes. Bette is in the bathroom getting dressed. She has brought her white power suit, her favorite, and also Tinas favorite. She walks out of the bathroom and Tina stares at her with the biggest eyes.
You look beautiful baby. She says as she buttons the last button on her shirt.
You look stunning Bette says as she looks at Tina. Tina smiles, blushes a little. She takes a seat in front of the mirror. Bette walks over to her.
Here, let me. She says looking at Tina through the mirror. Tina gives Bette the hairbrush. And Bette does Tinas hair.
A little later theyre finished and go down and onto the parking lot and gets in the car and drives off.
There, that is my old high school. Tina says and points at a large school yard. Bette smiles, it looks so small she thinks to herself.
So where do I turn? Bette asks
The next turn to the left. Tina says. After a few minutes they pulled into the driveway. Tina sat back in the car, and took in the sight of the house.
It looks exactly the same. Tina says in a quiet voice. Bette takes Tinas hand. Tina turns her head towards Bettes, she smiles.
I love you. Bette says and leans in for a kiss, so does Tina. They both smiles. I love you too. Tina says. They get out of the car.
Walk hand in hand up the door and then ring the bell. Tinas mother had been watching them from the kitchen window.
