Chapter 58

The next day, Bette had to go to work. She made arrangement with Shane to stay with Tina. She took Angelica with her to day care. She stopped by the copier and printed out the last year exam.

She made her way over to the school building and entered the class room. A few kids were already there.

“Hey guys. You’re here early.” Bette says.

“Yeah. It’s raining out so, we came in here, and figured that we might as well start with the preparations for the exam.” Megan says.

“Good.” Bette says and smiles. She takes a seat at her desk and starts looking through the exam. Charlie enters the classroom.

“Hey, Ms. P.” He says and smiles as he walks to his desk.

“Ms. P? Seriously Charlie…” Bette says and raises her eyebrow.

“Well, I think it sounds cool. Or do you prefer Mrs. P?” Charlie asks.

“Eh, well…” Bette gets out.

“Oh come on, teach. It’s cool. And you’re cool. Do us the honor of taking the name of Ms. P.” Charlie says. Every one is looking on from Bette to Charlie and then back to Bette.

“You all want to call me Ms. P?” Bette asks, looking around at everyone.

“Yeah.” Was the reply.

“Well then… I guess Ms. P it is… Tina is going to laugh.” Bette says and chuckles.

“So, are you coming to the party?” Sarah asks.

Bette looks up and at everyone.

“I don’t know. We had a visit to the hospital yesterday. Tina is on full bed rest from now and up to the baby’s born. So, I don’t know. I still have a few weeks right?” Bette asks.

“Yeah. Is she okay? Is the baby okay?” Caitlin asks.

“She’s fine and the baby’s fine.” Bette says and smiles. “Thanks for asking.” She adds.

The rest of the day goes by without any trouble and at 16 she’s picking up Angelica and on her way home.

She dials the home number, hoping that Tina had taken it with her to bed.

“Hello.” Tina says.

“Hi, baby, it’s me, I’m on my way home. Do we need anything at the store?” Bette asks.

“I don’t think so. Just come home.” Tina replies.

“Okay, I’ll be home in 15 minutes or so.” Bette says.
