In The Army Now Part 10

    5/18/07:Alice n Dana’s House-West Hollywood-2:00 A.M.

Alice staggered into her house, drunk as usual. She developed a habit of going clubbing, and drinking after the ceremony. She caused a big scene at the ceremony when it came time to honor Dana, mostly because she was drunk by that time. Every time someone was called onto the podium to say a few things about Dana, she would laugh and cuss under her breath. When finally a woman named Wonda, who Dana said treated her horribly during basic training, was called up, Alice got up and smacked the woman in the face and said, “Bitch! What do you have to say about her? You treated her like a door mat!”

Shane had to rush to the stage, and drag Alice down. “Sorry, she just hasn’t been feeling well,” Shane said as she attempted to apologize to everyone there. Shane and Carmen drove Alice to her house, but Alice refused to go inside. “Come on Alice, honey, you need your rest,” Carmen said.

“I’m not going in there until I know Dana’s in there.” Every time Carmen or Shane would go near her, Alice would kick them. Eventually, Alice fell asleep. Shane and Carmen carried her inside, and tucked her in bed.

A drunk Alice then went to her kitchen and grabbed an open bottle of liquor. She chugged the entire bottle and sat down on the chair next to her table. Earlier that day she heard a news report about a soldier who was stationed at Dana’s base was found alive. He wondered into a city and collapsed as soon as he did. Not that she cared, but she found it interesting. She let her head fall on the table with a loud thud. “Son of a bitch!” She said as she rubbed her head.

    5/18/07:The “City”-West Germany-2330 hours (11:30 P.M.)

One week passed since they found the house, then another. They had found more food and made improvements on their shelter. “Dana, I don’t know how much longer I can go eating this crap,” Heart Breaker said grimly as Dana served her some corn.

“Neither do I.” Dana turned around and looked at Dufy. “How she’s looking?” Gina had gotten incredibly sick.

“Well, her fever went down, but the medicine doesn’t help her. She says it only makes her sleepy. I’ve seen this before, this is a stomach virus. She needs to eat more, even it hurts her.”

Then, they heard something. It sounded like a muffled voice. Dana looked around, “What the fuck is that?” It was coming from her bag. Dana opened her bag and pulled out the radio she was fiddling with two weeks ago. She heard a man’s voice come from the radio say, “Is anyone there? I got a transmission a few weeks ago from this radio number. You reported needing help, come back. Over.”
