In The Army Now Part 7

Shane just sat there. “I know, I know. It’s justI really wish Dana was here.”

Carmen placed her hand in Shane’s. “I know, me too.” Just then Alice walked in. She spotted Shane and Carmen and started walking towards them. They were both surprised to see Alice there because for the past couple of hours she refused to come out of her room.

“Hey guys.” Alice said as she reached the table.

    “Hi Alice. How you felling?”

“No better than earlier.” Alice had also become a stranger to both Carmen and Shane. Carmen knew that Alice would probably never be the same person again. “I’m having a hard time coping.” Alice‘s brain was working over-time trying to remain the same person. She was trying her best to remain the same person and in result she was losing her character.

“Alice, um, are you going to that ceremony Saturday?”

Alice lowered her head, and she whispered, “Yeah.” In all her life, Alice had never felt so torn. Her entire life, she acted all big, bad, and tuff. Truth was, behind that act was a small, insecure, scared little girl. She felt no reason to live, nor to die.

“How’s that medicine helping you Heart Breaker?”

“Is this stuff even legal? I haven’t felt like this since I got high for the first time. As I was saying, I have a girl back in the states.”

    “Really? What’s she like?”

He thought about it for awhile. “She’s great. Sometimes, once in awhile, she’s a bitch. But I love her. Your turn Lion.”

She looked at him. “I don’t have anyone.”

    “No one?”

“Not one person. My family basically disowned me.”

They looked at her. Then Gina said, “That sad. Why someone disown a very likable person like you?”

    “Um, because they’re bastardsI’m likable?”

“Sure, I mean I like you, kinda.”

Lion smiled a big, goofy smile. It looked sort of like one of Dana’s smiles. Dufy looked back and forth at them then said, “Okaymy turn. I have two kids, a boy and a girl. The boy’s one year and the girl’s three months.”

“You had a baby? You don’t even look like you had a baby.”

    “Cause I didn’t bare the kid, Dum-Dum.”

“Then who? Oh, I get it. You have a girlfriend, right?”

    “I had a girlfriend.”

    “So, you’re a lesbian?”

“Call it what ever you want. I call it honesty.”

“So, since I’m a dude, if I hit on you, you’d totally blow me”

    “What?”

“Off. You’d blow me off. Like, turn me down, break my heart, all that good stuff. Right?”

“Yes I would. So, Dana you haven’t talked about your life back in the states.”

“I’m a celebrity, my life is basically television.”

“No, I mean your life off the courts. Don’t you have a girlfriend or something. That’s what I read in the paper like two years ago.”

“Yeah, I have a girlfriend and”

    “And?”

“And she’s the greatest person in the world.”

    “What’s so great about her?”

Dana thought about this. “Everything. She’s beautiful, funny, smart, sincere the list goes on and on. But what so great about her is that she’s not only my girlfriend, she’s also my best friend. I met her nine ago, and been in love with her since. I wish I was back home with her, I need a bath.” Dana closed her eyes, and drifted off to fantasy land.

“I agree. You do need a bath.”
