    Into The Flames (Chapter 8)

“Stick together, I have one more apartment to check,” Bette shouted at them, “is there anyone else in your apartments?”

They all shook their heads and Bette rushed into Tasha’s apartment. She immediately smelled the gas and turned on the oxygen in her suit. She ran into Tasha’s kitchen and turned off the gas that fueled the fire. She spotted the Philly Arsonist’s card on the balcony but she ignored it. The wall separating Tasha’s apartment and her neighbor’s had been blown to smithereens. Bette ran into the apartment and yelled out, “hello?”

There was no response. She ran around the burning apartment. Evidently a woman lived here alone, but the woman was nowhere to be found. She was about to abandon the apartment when she noticed the debris of the wall piled on the couch. What if the victim was in there?

Bette moved quickly. She moved the rocks with ease, having lifted more weight than this during her bench presses. That’s when she saw the bloody arm.

“Shit!” Bette cried. She moved more rocks out of the way and pulled on the arm, making most of the body slip out. Another explosion was heard and the victims in the hallway let out a scream. Without looking, Bette simply lifted the woman onto her back and ran out of the apartment.

“To the stairs!” She yelled at the victims taking the lead, “follow me! Stay directly behind me!” The victims filed behind Bette running down the stairs. Bette’s body was completely exhausted with the dead weight of the woman on her back, but she kept pushing forward.

“Status Bette? The building is about to go down, you have to get out!” Tasha cried over the walkie talkie.

“I got a woman on my back and about five more behind me,” Bette responded, “we’re running down the stairs.”

“Copy, Shane and three more guys went in to help,” Tasha said.

By the time they reached the first floor, Shane and the three men were there. One of the big men, lifted the woman off of Bette’s back and carried her out of the building. The other man took ahold of the old woman and the little girl. The third man was leading her mother and Shane was leading the young man.

Bette grabbed the arm of the man in the business suit and led him towards the exit. The man was tall and skinny. He looked utterly terrified, but he stayed close behind Bette as they ran out of the building.

A cheer broke out from the spectators behind the police line as Bette emerged. “Thank you,” the business man said, “thank you so much.”

“It’s no problem,” Bette said smiling.

“Damn Porter,” Shane said, “you single handedly saved six people and two pets.”

“I just had to get them out of there,” Bette said.

    “You’re a hero.”

    1. Hi T24 :-) I just manage to catch this up!! What a great story.. And who the heck is that arsonist?! Is that Jenny? Jodi might be the 2nd suspect, but if she was in relation with Bette then she should know Dana before, so it looks like it’s not Jodi. Or is it Candace? … Oh you left us hanging here!! … Lol .. Looking forward to your next post :-) and good luck for your audition ;-) all the best!! ( “,)_v

    2. I hope the arsonist is someone otherwise respected. I think it’s going to come out of left field anyway. Nice work by Bette, I’m sure she’ll get a hero’s welcome from Tina. Thanks!

    3. Good luck with your audition. I’m anxious to see who the arsonist is. I say either Jodi or Candace. I think the woman Bette pulled out of the apartment was Alice. Waiting anxiously for the next update!

    4. Great update. This story is fantastic. I’m going to stop guessing because I just can’t figure it out so I will wait for you to tell us. But I want to know who the heck was the woman that Bette pulled out of Tasha’s apartment. There was not supposed to be anyone in there when Tasha left for work. Great work and good luck on your singing gig or is it an audition tomorrow. Thanks.
