CHAPTER 92

Bette arrived at the offices of the Peabody Foundation – she was meeting Tina so they could have something to eat before they went to the movies together. It was after 6pm so the top floors containing the senior managers was pretty sparsely occupied. She headed for Tina’s office which meant that she had to walk past Helena’s office. The door was open so she could hardly NOT hear the conversation that was going on
“Yet again you have fucked up Helena “
“Its not a fuck up mother “
“You let the deal slip through your fingers – others have done all the work – all you had to do was be smooth the client and you couldn’t even manage to do that “
“He wasn’t that interested mom – it wasn’t a hot deal – it was never a hot deal – tepid at the best “
“My contacts did not say that “
“Have you ever thought that your contacts were lying to you mother – people do that because they do not want to be eaten alive “
“My contacts — ALL my contacts are the best in the business and the only reason that they do not bring the deal home is when some devious bitch does some dodgy deal and I lose out”
Bette winched – she really didn’t want to walk past that doorway – hearing Peggy mauling Helena was never nice and this was especially cruel as Helena had no idea what had really upset Peggy on this occasion.
“What are you talking about ?”
“Let me just tell you that I do not allow myself or the people that I rely on to get me what I want to be screwed more than once. The people who have crossed me will be dealt with “
“I am sure they will mother – I have seen the entrails of your previous victims”
“I am putting you on a warning Helena – you are not immune to my wrath – I am very displeased with you “
“I have heard all of this before mother “
“Yes – but you do not seem to have heeded any of my warning – do not think that your position here is totally safe “
Bette had heard enough – she turned round and headed back towards the lifts. She went down to the ground floor – told the guard that she wanted to get some flowers for her girlfriend and she would be back in ten minutes. She deliberately took as long as possible to find a flower seller, pick a nice bunch for Tina and return. She was very relieved that by the time she returned to the floor there was silence and Helena’s office door was closed. Bette arrived at Tina’s office and went inside – the blonde was sitting wearing headphones typing away. Bette grinned – she had always had a thing about “ corporate” women – she found the smart suits and high heels to be a real turn on. So seeing Tina for the first few times in power suits with her blonde hair neatly tied back had been a real thrill. Bette sighed – this woman had totally changed her life in six short months – the thrill was that they had the rest of their lives together – that made Bette almost obscenely happy.
Tina looked up and saw Bette watching her. She removed her headphones and smiled
“Hello gorgeous “
“I was thinking that you look particularly gorgeous yourself – for you “
Bette presented Tina with the red roses
“Bette – these are lovely “
“Thought they would be nice for your office”
“They are lovely – I will put them in a vase – thank you “
Tina walked round and kissed Bette passionately on the lips as she passed her. Bette rested her hand on Tina’s face and the kiss deepened and lingered. Tina eased away
“These flowers will be dead if I wait until we finish kissing “
Bette smiled as Tina wandered around getting the vase – going out to the toilets to get water and returning and arranging the roses.
“Why the headphones ?” Bette asked picking up Tina’s ipod
“Helena and Peggy were going at it for about half an hour “
“I arrived about 15 -20 minutes ago and I didn’t dare walk past the office because the door was open “
“That was the second bust up of the day – the first one didn’t last as long but was more of a Peggy rant. I did guess that you had told Peggy the bad news “
“I did – she was fuming when she left me – Peggy doesn’t like not getting what she wants”
“And I imagine that losing the painting to my mom was probably the final straw “
“It was bad I have seen Peggy pissed off before – I have seen her angry that she has lost a piece but – well to lose THAT piece to Emma — well it’s the perfect storm really. I assume that Helena doesn’t know what the fuss is all about “
“No – I could hear the lines that were about the painting and Helena was lost “
“Where there many witnesses to the argument this morning ?”
“I gather she was on the rampage – she chewed someone else out before going to see Helena and giving her what was probably a tirade. Its bad luck for Helena that a deal to buy into a growing export business from Argentina blew up. “
“I did wonder what it was about “
“I don’t know the whole story but someone told me that it was this export business that they had lost out on “
“I have seen Peggy cross with Helena before – I have seen her disappointed in Helena but – well this is worrying me “
“She will get over herself “
“Peggy doesn’t do what normal people do – she is the don’t get mad – get even type as you probably know. She is working up a head of steam about Helena and Emma”
Tina rubbed her nose “I am concerned Bette “
“I know – and we agreed that for the sake of your career you need to keep out of it as much as it is possible for you to do.”
“There is a lot of talk about re-organisation – but she hadn’t said if I am going to be part of it”
Bette smiled “ I love your modesty – look at your office – you started on the floor below – which is a great start but now you are here – Helena is two offices away – that rather flags up that you are something special. I look forward to you looking after me when you are a high paid executive “
“I will believe it when I see it – all the same – it would be nice “
Bette pulled Tina closer and they started to kiss. Bette stroked Tina’s bare forearm – gently tracing patterns down to her wrist and stroking her fingers. Tina swallowed hard – that felt good. How the fuck did the simplest touch like that arouse her so quickly. Tina watched as Bette turned Tina’s hand over and rubbed her palm – that made Tina almost jump with the way the surge of passion raced through her body. Bette moved her hand to Tina’s waist and pulled her tight. The kiss this time was softer but contained more passion. Bette touched the material of Tina’s shirt and popped open the bottom two buttons and eased her fingers inside and touched Tina’s stomach. There was a gasp of pleasure from Tina – such a simple set of moves and she was quickly turning into a quivering jelly. Bette continued her upward journey with her hand – stopping when she found one of Tina’s breasts – she cupped it and stroked the soft material. Bette backed her words with the actions of opening the button on Tina’s light grey slacks – she pulled the zip down and pushed her hand down between the trousers and her pants.

“Me too – do you want to clean up and we can head off “

“What about Mr Hanks ?”
“I don’t want to watch a movie in bed with Mr Hanks – just you “
Bette grinned “Come on then – lets move “
Bette sat in Tina’s chair and admired the view of the city while Tina put her clothes on and went to get a quick wash and apply deodorant and touch up her make up.
