    It’s just lunch…10

Tina patted her face dry after washing off what little make up she wore that night. She finished off her before-bed routine by applying a light skin toner then walked back into the bedroom, crawling under the covers clad only in a tank top and drawstring pyjama bottoms.

‘I was sure she was going to kiss me,’ Tina thought to herself. ‘She leaned in and everything and then just backed away and said goodnight.’

She switched off the bedside lamp.

‘Maybe I should have invited her to stay.’

She turned and fluffed her pillow before flopping back onto it.

‘Maybe she’s just flirting with me. Maybe she just wants to be friends. But she held my hand. And she did kiss me yesterday. And she keeps on creating opportunities for us to spend time together.’

Tina could not imagine being able to sleep anytime soon. Her silent debate continued.

‘I wonder if she’s home yet?’ she glanced at her bedside clock. ‘She left 20 minutes ago, she’s probably home already.’

She stared up at the ceiling.

‘Should I call her? Kind of a thanks-again-for-a-lovely-evening type of call?’

    She pondered the implications.

‘If she’s not home, I’ll wonder where she is and if she is home, I won’t know what to say.’

Tina vacillated in her resolve to call – to try to establish just where this was going. She wasn’t even sure what “this” was.

‘How could she get so close – close enough I could feel the heat coming from her skin – and yet not kiss me?’

Tina absent-mindedly touched the corner of her mouth with her fingertips. It was where Bette had kissed her quickly – too quickly – the day before in her office.

‘She knows I have to work tomorrow morning, maybe she wanted to let me get some rest.’

She dismissed the idea almost immediately.

‘A kiss would have taken just a moment, that’s not a valid reason.’

    She evaluated this theory further.

‘Maybe it would have taken more than a moment,’ she thought. ‘Maybe she wants to have unencumbered time to see where a kiss might take us?’

    Tina liked this theory.

‘Maybe that’s why she invited me over tomorrow. To see just where a kiss might lead in the privacy of her home.’

Tina may not have received a goodnight kiss that evening. But as her body and mind succumbed to the need for sleep, her imagination provided her with more than enough descriptive images to make for a restless night.

    *********

Bette walked in her front door and placed her keys on the hook.

‘I should call her,’ she thought to herself. ‘I don’t want her to think I’m not interested. I just want her to be sure.’

She slipped her shoes off and made her way to the kitchen to get a glass of water for her night table.

‘I already said she could call me tomorrow, and I know she has to work early,’ she continued. ‘I don’t want to wake her up if she’s already sleeping.’

Bette walked into the bedroom and placed the glass on the nightstand before getting ready for bed.

She rubbed lotion over the backs of her hands as she exited from her ensuite bathroom, all ready for a good sleep after a wonderful meal and scintillating conversation.

‘I like her,’ Bette thought. ‘I can’t believe I kept myself from kissing her tonight. It would have been so easy to move just slightly, under the guise of talking perhaps, and see what happened.’

“I want her to be sure,’ Bette affirmed in her mind. ‘If I continue to be patient, it will all fall into place at the right time.’

    She glanced at the clock.

‘I think it’s too late to call now.’

She picked a book from the shelf and decided to read before going to sleep. It was a necessary distraction to allow the events of the evening to fade slightly from her consciousness.

Despite her best efforts, she still spent all night dreaming of the good night kiss that never took place.

    1. Maybe Bette will make the pool garden look so romantic that Tina will just stand there with her mouth open and thats when Bette will kiss her. Thank you for the story today. Md

    2. Bette needed a little Carpe Diem! To make matters worse, she didn’t even call her. I hope she doesn’t let another opportunity slip through her fingers… Tina may not want to risk another loss so soon.

    3. I’m with Audi, I think if B lets T know she just wants her to be sure & not put any pressure on her, it will just make T want to jump her all the more….I’m sure for their “pool date,” the added bonus of them both being in outfits that leave little to the imagination will only be fuel to the fires already burning ;)

    4. So fun to see Bette’s “suitor” side paired with Tina’s “I want her but don’t know what signs to follow” side. I can’t wait to see what happens when they do kiss.

    5. Swimmie I like Bette and Tina’s inner thoughts in this chapter. They are both on the same page and they don’t even know it yet.I wonder who will initiate the kiss.

    6. I dream of a goodnight Tibette kiss all the time. They both are falling for each other. Hopefully, soon they will come to realize that their feelings are mutual.

    7. So many emotions held, hidden inner thoughts and wants, starting to flow. These pent-up feelings are so real. PPS Lucero & Marsha (JC’s Salsa Aunties from Mexico City)
