It’s just lunch…8
Bette leaned in and kissed the corner of Tina’s mouth.
“I’ll let you get going,” Bette said. “And I’ll see you tomorrow…say six thirty?”
“Perfect,” Tina agreed. “Give me a moment and I’ll go down with you.”
Bette smirked at Tina’s choice of words, but chose not to tease her about it. She’d give her all the moments she needed.
She let go of Tina’s hand to allow her to pick up her purse from the desk. She powered down her computer and they were ready to leave.
They were soon once again sharing the elevator, each with full access to a control panel on either side of the doors, but with neither one feeling even the least bit in control.
**********
Tina drove out of the parking lot and onto the street in front of her building.
‘No questioning that interaction,’ she thought to herself. ‘I wonder where it would have gone if the phone hadn’t rang…”
She pondered what she thought she was ready for.
‘We were in my office, it wouldn’t have gone much further anyway,’ she reasoned. ‘I have to admit, I’m looking forward to being ‘lead astray’ by her.’
This was well beyond the admiration and passing interest she had felt for other women. She had never experienced a sexual fantasy about another woman before. And here she was, barely able to keep from thinking constantly about Bette. These were not innocent thoughts she was having. What was it about her? She regretted not having someone to process this with.
She was actually thankful that work presented itself to guide her thoughts over the course of the afternoon. When there was downtime, she found her mind drifting to Bette, but the downtime was infrequent.
She fell into bed at 11 o’clock that night, exhausted. Her dreams reflected the events of earlier in the day and she woke up several times with a smile on her face.
************
“So she did call?” Alice clarified.
“She did, yes,” Bette replied, pausing to have a drink of her mineral water. “Last night, when I was still at the office.”
“I knew she would,” Alice said. “She’s interested.”
“Well, much to my chagrin Alice, I have to admit you’re right. She is interested. Or she likely wouldn’t have broken up with her boyfriend,” Bette said.
“Now that’s an interesting turn of events,” Alice shifted her chair and squared her body to Bette in preparation for hearing more of the story. “And how did that change the dynamic between the two of you when you met for lunch today?”
“She seemed a lot more relaxed,” Bette mused. “She was very composed and professional in her own work environment too.”
“Did you kiss her?” Alice asked.
“Just a quick goodbye kiss,” Bette said. “It had the potential to be more but her office phone rang and she had to leave to get to the set.
“When are you going out again?”
“Tomorrow night,” Bette said. “I’m taking her for dinner.”
“And what’s going to be for dessert?” Alice said, raising her eyebrows in a lascivious fashion.
“This won’t be rushed,” Bette replied. “I’m going to let her guide the pace.”
“That will take forever!” Alice complained. “How am I supposed to get any pleasure from your personal life if you don’t speed it up?”
“Well surprisingly Alice, it’s not about you,” Bette said. “I want her to be comfortable with what happens between us. If I wait for her to give me some indication she’s interested in moving forward, I’ll know she’s thought it through.”
“You’ll have her pacing like a caged animal,” Alice said. “I like the approach.”
“I don’t want to feel as though I’ve convinced her to do something she’s not ready for,” Bette reasoned.
“You want her to seduce you,” Alice came to the realization in an instant. “You’re acting chivalrous and morally superior, when in fact you just want to get to a point where she feels compelled to make the first move.”
“That’s not it at all,” Bette dismissed Alice’s theory. “I don’t even know if she’s dated other women. Maybe I’m not her first.”
“I think that’s the next order of business then,” Alice said. “If you’re not the first woman she’s dated, there’s no need for you to be tentative.”
“And if I am the first, I’ll continue to be patient,” Bette said.
“And we’ll soon find out if she’s as patient as you are,” Alice concluded.

Loved that Bette has reasoned out an approach to Tina. Its funny. Its very Bette. Alice was hilarious. And hey, I’m in graduate school and I read fanfic in my down time. If you study hard there is always time to do other things too. Thanks for the update.
Hiya JKS, Thank you for this brilliant update. I just adore how you have completely capture Alice’s joie de vive and the foot in mouth complex she carries. Sweet to have Bette being patient. I believe that she senses the potential importance of this recent introduction. I do hoep that Bette admits to herself that Tina is someone she could truly fall in love with. I think that Tina is already on this journey. Being with and near Bette is giving Tina a sense of belonging that has thus far been absent from her life. Hope I’m right. Just lapping up these daily updates. happy with today’s fix. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
i also am enjoying these morning posts. dont get to read them 1st thing. knowing that they are there is delightful. dont think bette is very patient. thx
What keep someone from sewing Alices lips close? Alice will be Alice. Like that Bette is going to let Tina take the lead, even tho it will drive her crazy. thanks
This is really refreshing to read…Post soon…
JKS…I will take 1 post a week or 10 posts a day…anything from you is always wonderful! Oh…and I can’t wait for June.
I have to agree with Alice to some degree – I mean have are we suppose to live vicariously through Bette if she doesnt speed it up:-) on the other hand this slow boil is soo worth it and when the time comes I am sure Tina will agree. Shouldnt stop you from posting with your current frequency though:-)
Hi Fins, I can’t tell you how exciting I am that you are posting regularly!!! School is important, but everyone needs a break know and again, and if writing gives you the release you need, I say, write, write, write…looking forward to the date…on Friday night!
Love this story and your writing. More please.
Patience? Oh, no Bette. Don’t start having patience now. I’m with Alice. We live vicariously through your pursuits. Looking forward to the pre-dinner relaxation at Tina’s.
Nice update!
really enjoying this story
Can’t wait for dinner & a better kiss!
Justkeepwriting…and I’ll be Justkeepreading…
I can only hope you continue posting frequently. Never mind about studying! Just kidding…maybe.
Love the story,Swimmie. We all know they can’t keep from each other for too long. And they’re both just TOAST. Can hardly wait til it happens. Post when you can. STUDY!!!!!
Alice is right on the money with her assessment of Tina and Bette’s brewing relationship. I love this slow burn with Tina not sure what to do and Bette wanting to go forward but allowing Tina to lead rhe dance.
Hahaha…this is just too delicious JKS!
Simply Irresistible !
I love that Bette is waiting for Tina to be ready to move to the next step. Alice so needs to get her own life, LOL! I am looking forward to the dinner.
Whoa first. Another great chapter. Thanks
Alice is just alice….can’t wait for dinner! :)PPS
JKS, I must say I really love the way you let your characters lead the story and not the other way around. This fic holds so much charm ! I’m truly loving this !
Loving this story.
The early morning posting works for me, also. You know, if being a student means lots of fanfic…maybe you should consider more classes. *ducking* As always, totally enjoying the story. As much as Bette’s taking the outward high ground, Alice totally has her pegged. She’s going to drive Tina to the point where she’ll have no option but to pounce, and I admire that skill in a woman.
Loving the story JKS…thanks!
If this is how you write fanfic, you must be an outstanding student. Your other stories are just as wonderful, too. I’m lovin’ the frequent posts.
this is a delight for me too, to wake up to another chapter of this wonderful story…keep it up, please!!! you make me smile all day long
Bette’s right to let Tina lead. But I get the feeling Tina isn’t going to be able to wait all that long.
love the story and as you are such a good student- don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to spend a bit more time writing than studying…i’m sure you’ve covered off on everything by this point, right??
That was great, Alice is funny, love B&T. Please more, thanks!
