Just friends…? Ch4
Dana was still reeling from her win when she finally got down to the locker room. Never in a million years did she imagine beating someone as good as Venus Williams. Dana was replaying the memories of the last few moments of the game, reliving the glory, when the door flew open and an ecstatic Lara came bursting in. She wrapped her arms around the tennis player, planting kisses on her neck. For a brief moment, Dana was so absorbed in the moment that she excitedly hugged back. Maybe this was enough. She had just beaten the world’s best, female tennis player, she had a beautiful woman in her arms and an amazing best friend who would be there if and when it all went wrong. She knew she would never feel about Lara the way she felt about Alice but was it really worth the risk?
“Baby, are you ok? You don’t seem with it”
Dana shook her head slightly, pushing away her conflicting thoughts. “I’m just overwhelmed.”
“You’ve had a big day. Why don’t we go out and celebrate?” Lara asked beaming.
“Sure,” Dana replied. Somehow her jubilated feelings were beginning to fade.
Meanwhile, Alice had arrived back at her flat and had begun to get down to some overdue work. She was currently working on an article about the top-ten holiday destinations in Europe. She had no clue why as she had never even been to there. God bless the Internet…
The writer was quickly absorbed in her work. It turned out to all be quite interesting. Maybe someday she would get around to visiting some of the places.
Minutes soon turned into hours and Alice was still typing frantically. Finally her stomach woke her from an almost trance as she realized she was absolutely starving. She glanced at the clock and was shocked to see that it was nearly 5PM. She noted that not only had she been working a long time but also Dana hadn’t called like she had said. Was she having second thoughts?
Dana and Lara decided on a posh Mexican restaurant to celebrate. However, deep down, Dana didn’t feel like celebrating anymore. Lara was nice enough but the athlete would have rather lost the match and have Alice sitting opposite her. For Dana to admit that to herself caused her to realize just how strong her feelings were for her best friend. All her life tennis had been the most important thing to her, even more so than her family. So for her to now be willing to give that up for something so trivial was big.

I love your frequent posts, but, try not to burn yourself out. That being said… Yay! New chapter! You write Dana’s quandary well. So telling that she would rather lose the match and have Alice rather than what she did have. I feel for Alice in thinking that the movie night didn’t mean as much to Dana as it did to her. Dana handled the break-up surprisingly well. I guess it wasn’t too much of a surprise to Lara. The ending was very moving — with Alice just holding Dana close until she fell asleep. I look forward to the conversation they will have in the morning. Great chapter. Thanks, e.davies89!!
Excellent e.davies89! Started with a bowl cereal and ended with some B & J ice cream Yummy. Sharing a celebratory dinner with the wrong love is sad. I am glad that D decided to tell Lara the truth. D taking comfort in A’s arms was priceless. Thank you very much!
I like the fact that Dane is more confident in knowing what she wants and not hiding it. Lara knew so why did she let herself get played? Then again i guess you do hang on becus you love that person so much.So until they tell you its over you stay. Alice was so happy to be comforting Dane that she never even asked what was wrong…secretly she was hoping that she had ended it with Lara.Great Update PPS
i love your update….glad that Dana is being open on the relationship with Al and willing to breakup with Lara…pps…..
Aww love this cute story. Good for Dana having the courage to be honest with Lara. I like the touch of the ‘movie blanket’ I think I need to invest in one of those, could be a good lure hehe. Anyway PPS!
