Just The Girl – Chapter Forty Eight Part One (a HYD-inspired fic)

CHAPTER FORTY EIGHT: We Both Lit The Match That Burned The Bridge Down (Part One)

    Dana Fairbanks?

    “..we don’t really talk anymore.”

    “Why not?”

    “Long story.”

    “Give me the gist.”

“She turned her back on me when I got red tagged..”

    “Oh. She’s an asshole then.”

    “So were you.”

“Yeah, but that was before. I apologized right? Did she?”

“Nope. But I don’t want to talk about it. It’s in the past now..”

    …

    …

    …

    Fast-forward to the present..

Alice.. and.. Dana.. holding hands.. Whaaatttt???

    “Al?!” Bette exclaimed.

    “Dana?!” Tina gaped.

“What the hell?!” They said at the same time.

“Well, hello to you guys too.” Alice chuckled, clearly enjoying the astonished looks on her friends faces. They really didn’t see this one coming, she grinned smugly, always one to enjoy giving out surprises.

“What’s going on?” Bette asked slowly, giving Dana the once over. What the heck was Dana Fairbanks doing here, in a notorious F4 hangout? And with Alice of all people? She stared at Dana, a deep crease forming between her brows. Dana tensed up and fidgeted uncomfortably under Bette’s scrutinizing gaze. Alice, mindful of other people’s discomfort for a change, pulled Dana behind her to protect her date from her friend’s intense perusal. Bette’s eyebrows twitched as she shifted her gaze back to Alice. “What’s going on?” She repeated, hissing through her teeth.

Alice squeezed Dana’s cold and clammy hand reassuringly. “Isn’t it obvious Porter?” She lifted their entwined hands and proudly showed them to Bette and Tina. “We’re not officially a big o’l lezzie couple like you guys, but we’re dating.” Alice admitted. “Exclusively.” She added, glancing at a blushing Dana and flashing her a smile. Coming out to Bette was a huge step and if her bold proclamation didn’t prove to Coffee Girl how much she was proud to be with her, she didn’t know what kind of gesture would. A huge billboard on Sunset perhaps?

“I see..” Tina nodded dumbly, still reeling from the shock. Alice and Dana?! Who’d have thought? She gave herself a small shake to clear her head. “Um.. good for you guys.” She managed a smile, keeping her eyes trained on Alice. As much as she wanted to address Dana directly, a sudden bout of shyness engulfed her. She hadn’t really talked to her since the coffee throwing incident at the stairwell, so relations between them were understandably awkward.

    1. One of the absolute best stories I’ve read. Glad you’re back with bank account intact! Glad Melvin has woken up both literally and emotionally. Love the whipped Bette… the dialogue between her and Tina is too cute. Look forward to the other half of the chapter.

    2. This is the way to go Melvin. Bette is your daughter and you love her. You aso own an apology to Ken and Tina tho. Great post Alchemy10. dana still has to apologise to Tina.Bette and Tina are soooooooooo cute , they are funny, full of love and my hope. Can’t wait for the other half to be posted

    3. Yey! Melvin is stepping off his high horse! I really, really, really love your story. It has the right mix of drama and comedy in it. Thanks for teh chapter!

    4. Another great chapter from the queen of story telling herself. Yay for Melvin. The funny parts have me rolling so hard and yelling at like 4 in the morning, my neighbors are going to try to have me evicted soon. Can’t wait for the next post. Tah!

    5. You’re back!! Great chapter as usual… Dana, I think, won’t be hurting Alice any time soon. But she and Tina still have some making up to do. Maybe a helpful push, even from Porter? And I’m glad Melvin’s coming around. He obviously loves his daughter, but it’s good that his stubbornness is gone so he can see that. And B&T are still just the cutest! Love the story, Alchemy, thanks for the psot!
