Just The Girl – Chapter Twenty Eight (a HYD-inspired fic)

“You can bet on that Miss Bette.” Sonja smiled as she made her way towards the double doors. “Oh, and if I may,” She stopped and looked back at the brunette as her hand lingered over the door handle. “I would really like to meet and congratulate the girl who beat me this year.” She smiled. “I want to get to know the competition.” She winked as Bette laughed an nodded her head in response.

As soon as Sonja closed the doors behind her, Bette laid herself down once again. She closed her eyes and smiled as she savored the wonderful feeling of turning yet another year older. I wonder when this excited phase will pass? She laughed silently to herself. She knew that pretty soon, she was going to detest the whole aging process. But right now, she just couldn’t wait to grow up. She sighed contentedly as her mind drifted to her party tonight. Today, she would set aside all her troubles. She would have fun, she would have an excellent time. Nothing could put a damper on her joyous mood today, not even her father. “Happy Birthday Bette.” She greeted herself as she lay lazily in bed for a few more minutes.

At eight in the morning, an odd looking Hummer zoomed in and out the different streets of Los Angeles as it made its journey towards the biggest property in the Hollywood Hills. The car stood out like a sore thumb and turned heads everywhere, not just because of its size.. but mostly due to its odd custom paint job. The masculine and normally tough looking car was painted in an awful and gaudy bright pink color. Yes, it was the gayest Hummer in the whole wide world. And it’s owner wanted nothing less. “Out of the way!” Its driver, a frazzled Alice Pieszecki, screamed in irritation as she honked her horn at some pedestrians. The poor scared kids cried out loud as their angry father flipped Alice a finger. “Morons.” Alice mumbled beneath her breath as she made a sharp turn at the next intersection. She smiled triumphantly when she eyed the tall estate walls poking out of the trees in the distance. With her luck, she would reach the mansion in less than eight minutes. She steered the car with one hand as her other hand reached for her cell phone on the empty passenger seat. She pressed the necessary buttons and waited a few seconds for the other person to pick up. “Good morning lazy ass!” Alice greeted as soon as she heard the familiar grunt on the other line.
