    La Bela Italia (Chapter Five)

    In the Airplane, 19:00

They had been able to board safely, without any problems with the police; even though they received a lot of surprised stares due to the extraordinary quantity of bags in each woman’s hands.

Unfortunately their seats were very far away from one another. Only two couples had been kept together (Jenny-Robin, Tonya-Dana) and even so were scattered around the place.

Upon climbing the stairs into first class (some people, a.k.a. Tonya, wouldn’t dare traveling in nothing less), the eight friends had parted with promises of visiting each other throughout the flight.

Dana had carried most of her girlfriend’s total sum of eight handbags plus her own two plus their four shopping bags. They seats were in the corridor and their seatmates consisted of a cute, young, very straight couple.

‘Hello, darlings!’ Tonya screeched while she sat down beside Dana. ‘Oh, aren’t you completely A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E  together?’

‘Unh, thanks, I guess.’ The blond girl answered, a bit taken aback by the newcomer’s easy-going behavior.

‘I know true love when I see it.’ She hugged Dana far too intimately, didn’t see the astonished looks on their companions’ faces. ‘When I met Dana here, I was sure she was the one meant for me all along…’ She sighed dreamily, pecked the tennis player on the cheek. ‘You DO know my Dana, don’t you?’

By Tonya’s tone, it would be a sin to answer that question negatively. Dana cursed silently as the couple’s faces became illuminated by gray, fearful expressions. She made eye contact with the guy and pantomimed hitting a ball with a racket.

The man gave her a question-mark, please-help-me glance. She kept performing the mimic until Tonya almost saw it. She remade the gesture into the act of fanning herself.

‘It’s pretty hot in here.’ She explained sheepishly.

‘Oh, Dana Fairbanks! The tennis player!’ The woman exclaimed and beamed a little too tight.

They kept chatting even as the plane left the ground. Or rather, Tonya kept terrifying them and overly showering Dana with affection.

Dana picked up her cell phone, discreetly typed a message of two words (“Help me”) and sent it to Alice and Bette.

Answers came a few seconds later. The one from Bette read “Help me. Tina is acting weird.”, while Alice’s said “At least you’re stuck with your gf. I’m sitting between two gossiping old ladies!!! Help me! They won’t let me sleep!!!”
