    Leave the Memories Alone-chapter 6

    Chapter 6

Helena, Dylan, and Ashley decided not to be at the house when Tina arrived. They didn’t want to overwhelm her, they decided it would be best if Tina remember the more important things first before attempting to get back in her life. So when Bette, Tina, and Johnathan arrived, Angie was home only with Steve and Lydia.

The teenaged brunette wanted to make her mother feel welcome. With Steve’s culinary help she prepared a great feast for Tina, her favorite dish barbecue steak dogs. Evidently Steve made it for the family every Saturday.

Angie remembered that Tina told the story over a hundred times, then forgot she told it so she told it again. Bette would just laugh and Angie would roll her eyes. How important that story was now.

"Well now you know the family secret dumpling," Steve said kissing Angie’s temple as she washed her hands.

"Thanks for helping grandpappy," Angie said. Of course the Southern term didn’t sound quite so good in an English accent, but Steve liked it.

"Of course, anything for my Tina," Steve said, "plus Lydia will like it, she’s gotten worse since she found out about the accident."

    Angie frowned, "poor grandmama."

"Mm what smells so good?" Bette said as Johnathan bounced in her arms having just woke up and seen Tina for the first time. Tina was wearing a splint boot on her foot so she was able to walk, and the cast on her arm didn’t leave her complete hopeless.

So Tina gently took him from her. The baby babbled what sounded like, "ma ma ma," and gave Tina sloppy open-mouthed kisses on the cheek.

"Grandpa Steve and I made Momma T’s favorite, barbecue steak dogs," Angie said.

"Mm that sounds good and I’m starved," Tina said oblivious to the significance of the food.

Angie sighed but knew she had to let her mother remember on her own.

"Here let me hold Johnny-wonnie for a bit," Lydia cooed reaching for Johnathan.

"Luh luh leee!" Johnathan squealed lunging for Lydia.

"Oh I hope this tires him out early," Bette chuckled as Lydia laughed and hugged Johnathan close.

"Dinner is served," Steve said setting the pot in the middle.

"T do you remember where you sit?" Bette said.
