Let It Happen – Chapter IX
She was more than happy to help Bette and Tina make the changes they needed to make, and promised to help smooth things out, and keep “drama at the lowest level possible” that could ensue, once news would come out about Bette moving. “I think all that people would have to know is that you’ve fallen head over heels, Bette, and that you’re following Tina to New York.”
She continued, “I can do all the little things you’re going to need to get done, Bette. I agree with Mike, here, that you should avoid going to L.A. as much as possible for as long as possible.” Bette was signing over to Kit necessary powers of attorney, so that she could sign any papers on her behalf.
Mike was comfortable about all the arrangements that were being set-up, and was glad to see Bette had made peace with all the dramatic changes in her life. He figured he had Tina to thank for the more positive approach Bette had taken, and saw that, together, the couple did make for a fine pair. He told Tina he regretted having called Bette that early morning in Paris, to whisk her away back to the US.
“I didn’t know that you and she had spent that wonderful night together… she was so upset about leaving you, Tina, I thought we were going to have a real problem making a deal with her the day she got in. She wasn’t telling me, at first, why she was suddenly being so difficult, but, after a while, she said my timing was the worst.”
”And I thought we were toast.”
“In a way, her anger kind of worked in her favor, because she was really giving us an ass-waxing that day… and it helped us understand just how serious she was about not wanting to be involved any longer, and wanting her name out of everything. She really, really didn’t care what was going to happen to her, but was adamant that nothing happened to you.”
Tina smile at Bette, tearing up. She touched the brunette’s face tenderly.
He continued, “Some people in my team were slower at picking up on the sub-text, I guess, so she kind of tore them a new one!”
