Let It Happen – Chapter XIX
Tina checked herself into the hospital, and was wheeled into a private room. She lost track of time as a flurry of activity soon surrounded her. From the little that she caught, it appeared Logan and George had each “raised hell” calling the hospital, demanding this or that be done for Tina.
But nothing could really be done about hurrying Angelica out. After the initial contractions, no significant progress had been made in getting her out. She was taking her time, and was causing her mother extreme discomfort, and later, significant pain. By the time Sarah and Claudia arrived almost simultaneously several hours after Tina had checked in, Tina was dizzy with pain.
She could make out Sarah threatening to sue the hospital if something wasn’t done “Immediately. Like. Right. This. Minute!” Meanwhile, Claudia was sobbing into the phone, talking to George, as she described the scene, and Tina’s suffering.
A few hours later, even with Petossin, to induce birth, Tina’s labor had reached a critical point. The doctors were explaining to her that they’d have to do a C-section if things didn’t improve. Tina had tried to insist, in a weakened state, to give birth vaginally. In the midst of the pandemonium around her, she felt Angelica was finally ready to come out.
If she didn’t get the baby out soon, the doctors would likely take the decision out of her hands. After renewed effort, and pushing, in enormous pain, she finally gave birth to Angelica. However, Tina had lost a lot of blood in the process, and her blood pressure had dropped to precipitously low levels. Claudia’s and Sarah’s initial joy at witnessing the birth quickly turned to panic as they realized that both mother and baby were in danger. A quick discussion amongst doctors led to the doctor in charge finally deciding to give Tina a dosage of epinephrine directly into a major vein on her thigh. After a while, with Tina’s blood pressure still remaining low, the doctor administered another dose.
Meanwhile, Angelica had been taken to the infant ICU, after spending a moment being held by Tina. The pediatric doctors in attendance were concerned about the thickness in the baby’s blood, and decided the baby also needed to be bathe in a special light to address other issues.
