“We’ll both tuck you in sweetheart,” Bette said.
Angelica crawled into her bed and pulled the covers up to her chin.
Tina sat closer to the head of the bed while Bette sat behind her toward the foot.
“What was your favourite part of today?” Bette asked. It was a game they played whenever she was tucking her in.
“Me and Mommy came over to play,” Angelica replied, as she drifted off. She forced herself awake to finish the game. “What was your best part Mom?”
“You and Mommy came over to play,” Bette replied quietly. She silently put her hand around Tina’s waist as they watched Angelica’s eyes close, and a rhythmic breathing took over.
They sat for a few minutes, guardians of her happiness, both quietly hopeful that there were more such days in their future together.

Bette quietly approached Tina as she tore up fresh spinach for a salad.
“Can I help with anything?” Bette asked.
“I’m almost done,” Tina replied. “Did you take the bread out of the oven?”
“It’s already on the table.”
She was so close that Tina could feel Bette’s breath on her neck when she spoke. She tossed the salad and pushed it aside before turning to face Bette.
“Can I help you with anything?” Tina asked.
The tension between them had been building up all afternoon after what had decidedly been a significant release of tension that very morning.
Bette reached for Tina’s hands and brought them up around her own neck. She then placed her hands around Tina’s waist.
“I had to rush away this morning when we realized how late it was,” Bette started. “But I wanted you to know how much it meant to me, no matter what ends up happening between us.”
Tina silently leaned in and they embraced for a moment.
“I want it to be another beginning,” Tina said quietly. “But I understand we need to work through some things before that’s possible.”
“What made you think it was appropriate to have Henry in our house when we were still living together?” Bette asked as she leaned back. She didn’t let go of Tina, even after she felt her body tense up at the question.
“I didn’t think it was appropriate,” Tina finally replied. “I guess in some way I was trying to hurt you. I’ve thought a lot, cried a lot and finally came to the conclusion that I hadn’t completely forgiven you.”

I certainly remember this story and I love it more now. Thanks for updating the language so the profane language is present. It’s not that I am a complete potty mouth but let’s be realistic. Several of the stories that have transferred over have blanks or asterisks instead of the actual language. In my opinion, when this happens, the stories lose some of their authenticity and the characters lose their edge. I realize that it takes effort to fill in the blanks especially in longer stories. So thanks for doing that.
I find stories harder to read with the asterisks inserted…it’s like a jolt of reality interfering with my escapism. I had to get to the task of editing them out. I do plan to work on more stories; some easier than others because of where the files are. This story was first posted almost 10 (!) years ago, so the digital file was more challenging to retrieve. I’m not much for cursing, but the occasional well placed F-bomb can really get someone’s attention.
@JKS I can’t believe this story is almost 10 years old! It reads now as fresh as it did then. I really love your stories because they are so well written with realism, humor, sarcasm and authenticity. It also helps that for us ORs (Original Readers), it follows canon for the characters and storylines. :-)
