    Life:
    Altered 03.16 ~*~ Memory Fades

    Bette
moved to the bar, ordering a bottle of
tequila, the bartender gave her a look, and
    Bette
slid a hundred dollar bill onto the bar.
Their eyes met and the woman gave her a
comforting look, as if understanding exactly what was going on inside her head.

“Just get me the bottle, I can
    pour myself.”  Bette
said, sliding up onto the stool, she
watched as the dark skinned bar keep got her a bottle and said in a smooth
    British accent.

“Here you go love, bar closes
in three hours; I think you’ve got enough time to polish off a fair amount of
    that.”  Bette
smiled and said in a bland voice,
pushing the bill towards her.  The
bartender took the bill, folded it, and slid it into her shirt, eyeing
    Bette
and smiling, Bette read the nametag, and it said Blu.

“Keep the change Blu.”  The bartender nodded and slipped away, Bette poured herself a shot in the very clean
lightly tinted jade green glass.  Odd
color for a shot glass she thought to herself.  She steeled herself and downed the first of
many she hoped, something had to erase the pain of this night.

Tina.  Tina had cheated on her.  Of all the things she’d have thought would
have, could have, should have happened, that wasn’t one of them.
    Tina
‘d never looked at another woman, never in her life.  She never even said someone else was *****; she
would just grin and tell her how much she loved her.  That Cassandra woman must have been something
else.  A hard act to follow and she
sighed again.  She was now coming second
    place in
    Tina
    ‘s heart.

                So was Candace for that
matter, she was smart, down to earth and made Bette think of the world in a
whole different light.  Another shot and Bette
sat, taking long deep breaths.  So this was how it was going to end?  She’d been ready to beg, to plead, to get on
bended knees and promise to do anything for forgiveness.  Now this!

She didn’t know if she should
    tell Tina
about Candace, to make her feel better about her own
transgression.  Was she the one in the
wrong now, just because she’d confessed first?
She was at a loss at how to deal with this.  How could she have done this to them?
Tina, you have some gall *****
another woman.  All the while you were
***** someone else too, who is calling the kettle black now?  Cut the martyr *****
Bette, you’re as much at fault as Tina is.
      The
voice in her mind said and
    Bette
drank down another shot, wincing at the burning in
her throat, the tears falling from her eyes with out her even noticing.

    1. I agree with Ira about Bette not having the right to be as upset as she is. Usually I mainly want to see what’s happening with Alice, but now I want to see just how Bette is going to handle the situation.

    2. OK, I’m slow on the uptake! I’ve just put this story into the context of your other story – and whow, it’s awesome. Am completely addicted – but have to get on with a report – where are the hours in the day! Definitely not liking this Bette and have never liked Candace!
