Setting in rural area in Florida, older home sits on 200 acres of land, surrounded by farm land, fruit trees garden.  Bette sits on the front porch with her cousin Carol drinking coffee and eating sweet potato pie after having a Sunday dinner of fried chicken, collard greens, corn bread, macaroni and cheese, pork and beef roast, rice, peas with okra, tossed salad with lemonade, sweet and un sweet tea.  All of the recipes are from their grandmother-MaDear.  Kit was inside house thinking about all of childhood memories made at this home.

Carol-So Bette, you have decided to take the position as Dean at the College?

Bette-Yeah, Carol, I think this is the career for me, allowing me to be around the things that I love and support my daughter.

Carol-I think you made the right decision, what does Tina think about this.

Bette: (rolled her eyes) I really can’t answer that we have no contact; Kit serves as our go between for Angelica.  I just thankful she is allowing me to be part of her life.  I know my sister, she is aware that I will be taking the position.  Go ahead tell me I told you so.

Carol: Regardless of what Tina and you think, I have no problems with her, I just didn’t think, that she had what it took to be married to a Porter-it takes a lot.  I loved my uncle dearly, he was the only father figure in my life but it took something to put up with Uncle Mel.  It was his way or no way, the only one that could put him in his place was MaDear.

Bette: Yeah she could, couldn’t she?

Carol:  Why do think Uncle Mel just ignored your relationship with Tina, he couldn’t cut you off-that was because of MaDear.  She told him it was your life whether he agreed with or not, it was oblivious that you were in love, with everything you went through you desired to be love-let you be-this is the short version of course.

Bette: You are going to have to tell me the whole story one day.

Carol: I will, we will have plenty of time once the family and I come out there.  Also I have been conducting a little research of my own on this Henry fellow, things are not always as they seemed.  I should have the whole story soon.  From what my sources are going up with I am rather concerned about Tina and Angelica.

Kit comes out on the porch; okay you too finish that pie and come and help me clean up.

    1. Sometimes when a new story is started it helps to have a bit more of the basis of the story at hand, instead of just dropping the characters into a setting with no explanation really. But I think it has definite potential!!
