    Life Without Jenny (FINAL)

“And she wrote about it very nicely in her book,” Alice added.

    “Ahh!” Bette cried in pain.

“Let’s go,” Dr. Wilson said rolling Bette towards the room.

Shane and I followed close behind, already slipping on the scrubs.

“Mother fucker,” Bette cried, “how did you take this shit, T?”

“I don’t know,” I said grabbing her hand while Shane grabbed the other.

The labor had taken quite a few hours and by the time the baby was ready to be pushed, everyone had already come back. Even my brother and sister had joined the group.

    “Push!” Dr. Wilson said.

“Ahhh!” Bette screamed pushing as hard as she could.

“Come on Bette you can do it!” Shane cried with tears in her eyes.

“Once more! I can see her head!” Dr. Wilson said.

    “Ahhh God!” Bette cried.

“Come on baby!” I said gripping her hand.

“Shhhit!” Bette groaned pushing as hard as she could.

“Yes!” Dr. Wilson cried, “it’s a girl!”

“Bette! Oh my God!” I cried, “can I cut the cord?”

“She’s beautiful,” Shane said as Dr. Wilson brought up our little daughter. She was a little darker than Angie, but she had the same eyes.

“Here,” Dr. Wilson said handing me the scissors. I cut the cord gently and Dr. Wilson moved to wash her.

Bette sighed in relief as the room became filled with all of our friends.

“What are you gonna name her?” Alice said excitedly trying to see the baby but obscured by Dr. Wilson and the nurse washing her.

“Here ya go,” Dr. Wilson said putting the girl into Bette’s arms.

“Oh God, she’s beautiful,” I said crying and leaning down to kiss our daughter on the forehead then to kiss Bette’s lips.

    “Name!” Alice whined insistently.

    “Alice,” Tasha scolded.

Bette sighed and said, “her name is going to be Jennifer Katherine Kennard-Porter.”

I smiled at the name then looked at Shane who was crying.

“What’s wrong baby?” Carmen said touching Shane’s arm gently.

Shane smiled through her tears and said, “nothing. It’s just…this whole time I thought I was living my life without Jenny. But Alice saw her, then Bette heard her, and now they named a child after her.”

“I never lived my life without Jenny,” Shane continued, “she was always here.”

    1. Great story and ending. If there is an epilogue hope Kit gets out of jail early, still don’t think Kit should have gone to jail for that. Thanks.
