Like Looking Into a Mirror Ch. 13 : Those scars mean more than you think.
What do you mean we have a problem? Shane asked stepping out of Lather to hear better.
Alice told Shane about the conversation between Andie and her. Shane paced back forth as she listen. The Alice said the faster Shane paced.
What should I do? Shane said after Alice finished.
Maybe we should give her some time, Shane. She will come to you. Alice answered.
If she doesnt? Shane asked.
She will, she just needs to chill. Alice said she knew Shane didnt believe this. Trust me Shane. She will, I know her.
Shane nodded to herself. Okay, I gotta go. Ill talk to you later.
Bye. Alice hung up and sat against her car, looking down the street towards the way that Andie left.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Andie was walking with her head down and didnt see a woman walking toward her. They ran into each other, Andies guitar fell and some papers that the woman was carrying flew onto the ground.
*****! Im so sorry. Andie said, reaching out to grab the papers before they got away.
No, its okay, I wasnt watching where I was going. The woman said bending over to help Andie pick the flyers up.
Andie looked at the flyers that read, Hot dance music, Fridays at the Planet with D.J. Kit Porter and special guest, the saucy Esmerelda.
Hey, I work at the Planet. Andie said looking at the woman for the first time. She was slightly shorter than Andie, with hair the color of cinnamon and chocolate brown eyes. The Latino woman was breathtaking.
Really? Im DJing there with Kit. The woman smiled warmly.
So you are Esmerelda? Andie asked looking at the flyer again.
Yes, but thats just a fun name. She laughed.
Ah, Im Andie, I waitress and then my band plays there on Wednesdays. Andie held out her hand.
Esmerelda. She shook Andies hand. Or Carmen, I prefer the name Carmen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Andie left Carmen a few minutes after they had met. Her mind was still all over the place. She thought of Shane, she knew that Shane meant no harm, but it would have been better if she had came to Andie about this. Not Alice.
Andie walked in Samsons garage and nodded to her bandmates. She grabbed the guitar he had for her, that her stored at his parents place. Andie plugged it into the amp and immediately began to rip into an angry melody. The band knew exactly what songs she was playing and followed a long perfectly. Andies sultry voice sang low and raspy. Every once in a while she would scream out. Zoe the petite pixieish guitar player bounced around a bit. Her short wispy blonde bob moved with her every movement. Andie had always loved Zoes hair. It was cut short in the back where she spiked it out. An electric blue color touched the tips of the spikes in the back. Zoe was one of Andies oldest and best friends, much like Alices ex girlfriend and Alice herself were. However, Zoe had grown up with Andie during the times she had lived in Wyoming. One year she went to L.A. with Andie to visit Rae. Zoe fell for Raes carefree charm and open friendliness. Zoe soon stayed in L.A. to be near Rae.
After the end of the song, Andie grabbed a bottle of water and took a swig. Zoe knew that if Andie started a practice out with an especially angry song, that something was bothering her. But she knew better than to ask her about it. Andie would come to her if she wanted to.
Andie are we going to cover that Distillers song? Samson asked.
Yeah, Brody might be there and said she would love to hear us do our rendition of Drain the Blood. Andie answered. Should we try it?
Zo nodded and Andie began to play the solo guitar riff.
Andie sang, Im living on shattered faith, the kind that likes to restrict your breath
At the end of the practice, Zo and Andie sat swety on the curb of the drive way. They both stayed quiet, Zo smoked and Andie drank water. Andie broke the silence.
Ive decided to seriously get the wings on my back done in the next week or so. Andie blurted.
Zo made sure to keep her gaze forward.
Someone ask you about them? Zo asked.
Not directly.. Thats not just the reason though. Mother called me today. Andie wiped her face.
How is Margot? Zos small voice asked.
Crazy as ever. She asked me to go with her to see Gary. Andie bit her lip and could see Zo out of the corner of her eye. Zo was clenching her jaw tightly. She sat for a while and then sighed.
I suppose you could have offered me to go with her. You know, I would like to see Gary turned into some big mans ***** that changed his name into Garyanna. Making him tie up his shirt and is at their beck and call. Zo laughed causing Andie to laugh with her.
Listen, get the wings done, but those scars will still be there. They mean more than you think. Did you tell whoever wanted to know about them, what their from? Zo asked.
No, Im thinking about it. Im not sure about this woman. We are so much a like, but I could feel everything that Ive taught myself not to. Im breaking my own rules. I think she is too. Ive stayed at her place over night. I went past my limit of pursuing someone. I showed jealousy. God, Im doing everything I shouldnt. Andie couldnt stop talking; it was always like that with Zo.
You know what Rae would have said? ***** the rules. Rules are made to be broken. Tell the woman about them. Then it will be over and it wont need to be such a fiasco anymore. Zo smiled and got up. She went to the garage and sat down playing her guitar, while Andie stayed on the curb thinking.

Shane was digging in her pocket while she walked up to her apartment building. She had worked late and was exhausted, but thoughts of Andie ran through her head over and over. She regretted saying anything. Shane was trying to decide whether or not to at least call her, when she reached her door, she saw Andie sitting in front of it, waiting. Andie stayed where she was when she saw Shane, who had stopped and remained silent.
Andie looked down. Im ready to tell you, if youre ready to listen.
