Living In Entropy (Chaos) – L.I.E. – 02.11 – Hide & Seek
Alex trained her gun on the man, and he was shaking as he pulled Tina along with him, the Planet was in a total uproar, she heard Jo in her ear. People were running out of the caf, and Alex’s eyes were solely on the man holding Tina hostage.
She ignored Jo for the moment, right now she needed to concentrate on Tina and getting her the fuck out of this very bad situation that she was in. She could see the tears streaming down her pretty face, and Alex wanted very badly to shoot this guy right now, to get this over with.
“Ok, you need to let the lady go. You realize that you are caught, let’s not make it worse, let’s end this now, nice and easy.” Alex coaxed and he yelled, shaking and pulling her towards the back of the building, he was looking for a way out. Alex knew that there was none; at least none that she was going to allow him to use. Desperation was a scary thing.
“She told me! She told me! She knew that I’d fuck up, didn’t she?” He ranted, and Alex adjusted her grip on her gun Tina’s eyes pleaded with her. To Tina’s credit, she wasn’t yelling, she wasn’t crying too badly she was just saying a silent prayer. Alex was saying one too, even though she hadn’t prayed since the day her parents died.
“TINA!” Bette yelled as she saw Tina being tossed around in the man’s arms like a rag doll, Alice grabbed at Bette pulling her back. She almost lost her grip, and Alice ripped Bette’s suit. Bette was going to kill her for that later, she was sure.
“Bette don’t!” Alice screamed and Alex saw Shane scurrying over on her hands and knees across the floor trying to make her way to Bette. The gunman looked at Shane, but his gaze quickly went back to Alex the woman with a gun. She’d said there might be police, but she promised she’d get him out of it. Why had he been so stupid?
Bette moaned, now pushing against Alice and Shane, shaking uncontrollably. Tina was in danger; she was going to be killed if somehow that officer didn’t get him to let her go. Please save Tina, I cannot live without her. She’s my life, even though she won’t be a part of it. She is the reason I breathe, please. I’ll do anything, just let her be ok.
“Stop. Look, you know I have you dead to rights, I can’t let you go. Why not do this the right way? There is still time to get out of this alive, and not having hurt anyone else, ok?” Alex said, and Bette was crying, and Tina met Bette’s eyes, telling her with her eyes that she needed to reel herself in. Bette watched with pain in her dark eyes as he tugged on Tina’s hair and she yelped in pain as he babbled.
“She told me not to fuck her, that’s how you knew!” He cried pressing the gun to Tina’s temple and Tina finally broke, softly sobbing as he pulled her feet from the ground. She yelled, and it unnerved him, rattling him as Alex leveled her gun, needing him to move so that she could shoot him. In the bundle of nerves in the shoulder, it would render his hand useless. Come on, a bit more to the left, motherfucker. Alex could feel he was getting close to either letting her go, or shooting Tina. The latter option scared her shitless.
“SHUT UP!” He yelled Alex saw the end of her gun wavering, and she didn’t have a clear shot, at least not one that didn’t put Tina in harms way.
“Pez, S.W.A.T is here, they are going in. Nice and quiet like, let’s hope they are very quiet. Keep his mind occupied, get him talking, you’re doing great. Hold the boy at bay. We’ve got a shooter on the roof across the street; but he’s not sited yet.” Jo’s soothing voice came into her ear, and Alex wanted to rip the earpiece out of her ear.
“Put the gun down, please?” Alex said, she lowered her weapon and Bette let out another gut wrenching scream and Tina saw Bette out of the corner of her eye. Tina’s heart broke; the pain in Bette’s eyes was so real. The first real emotion that Tina’d seen from her in months. Shane and Alice were restraining her, Bette don’t do anything foolish, and Tina pleaded inside her head.
“She told me and I didn’t listen. She told me about the necklace but the bitch wasn’t wearing it! She wasn’t! It is not my fault she didn’t listen!” He lamented and just then Pez saw the bright laser red dot bead in onto his forehead, and Jo yelling into the mike, her voice shrill as she yelled.
Everything then shifted gears, slowing down into slow motion.
“NO!” Just then, the perp’s head snapped back and a small pinhole opened up in his forehead. Bette screamed Tina‘s name, and Tina yelled Bette‘s. Just one long drip of blood oozed from the new hole in his head, and Pez shot forward, grabbing Tina and dragging her to the floor. The man collapsed on the floor a few feet from them and Jo was shouting into the mike, she was livid.
“Tina?” Alex asked as Alex held her Bette was at their side, she grabbed Tina from Alex‘s soft grasp and hugged her, Tina holding her too. Alex thought to herself that this relationship was far from over.
Alex wiped her face, feeling the sweat there as she started to shake. The after effect of the adrenaline, and the chase through the street, there was one more effect of this, she was hornier than she’d ever been in her life. She sighed, oh like this she needed.
“You’re ok, oh god you are ok?” Bette cried, wiping away Tina‘s tears, touching her soft face. She wanted so badly to kiss Tina, but she didn’t. She just needed to feel her warm flesh under her fingertips. She was ok, she was still alive, hope, there was always hope.
Alex stood up, turning and seeing Jo stomping into the Planet, her gun still in her right hand. Alex holstered her gun on her left hip and took a deep haggard breath; she looked down at the now dead hostage taker, and sighed. That was the deadest lead she’d ever seen.
Jo checked out the reunion, and she thought Tina had been very brave in the face of danger. She admired her even more now than she had before, Tina was one tough lady. She’d seen most of it, from her post at the front door, letting Pez run the situation.
“Tee are you sure you are ok?” Bette asked and Tina nodded, pressing her nose to Bette‘s nose. Alice hugged Shane, and Shane fought the tears back they could all have been killed, thank god, Alex had been here.
“She set him up, you hear what he said? She’s playing us from start to finish. She knows every move we are making, she know how we think, how we operate. How the hell are we going to catch this bitch?” Alex asked and Alice leaned towards them, listening into the conversation.
This was about the serial killer and she wanted this guy to go down even more badly now, but the guy who’d been shot had said she. Cub reporter Alice P. was putting the pieces together slowly, and it was a complicated portrait of a killer.
Alice felt Shane behind her; Shane was shaken to the core about what had just happened. She only had a few friends, they were her only family, and she couldn’t bear to lose them.
Alice sighed, sadness was over taking her, and then Dana was at their side, making sure they were ok. Dana looked uneasy, and then she hugged Alice, but quickly drew away, as if the touch would burn her.
Kit was holding both Bette and Tina as they rocked on the floor in each other’s arms. They paid little attention to the two law enforcement officers discussing their case just a few feet away.
“I heard. This bitch is getting on my nerves, we needed a break, and some S.W.A.T guy put a bullet in his brain.” Jo lamented she rubbed her eyes, thinking she was so tired she could fall asleep right at that moment. “He’s not done with me, fuck! He didn’t have the go ahead to shoot!” Jo yelled kicking a chair and sending it skittering across the floor with such force that the back of the chair snapped when it hit the wall. Police and S.W.A.T swarmed the Planet, and the day was far from being over with.
“Well I was looking for some publicity, but not this kind.” Kit said, and Tina laughed, wiping away Bette‘s tears. She forgot how much she was supposed to hate her for just a moment, but that moment was fleeting.

“I can’t leave right now Crystal, I have work. I saw someone being held at gunpoint at the Planet today. I have to go back to the police station in the morning and make another statement. I just can’t go right now it is impossible.” Bette said into the phone, and she sighed at the anger that Crystal had in her voice at the moment.
“I need you. You need me.” Crystal said and Bette was about to relent when the doorbell rang, she walked over and saw the brown haired cop that had been at the hold up. The one that had been talking the gunmen down.
“I have to go; there is someone at the door. I’ll call you later and I’ll be there as soon as I can. I promise I don’t want to disappoint you.” Bette said Crystal hung up before Bette could say another word. Bette was starting to wonder what this relationship was all about, she felt like she was slowly being engulfed in something sinister, yet it felt so good to not have to be in control all the time.
“Hello Officer.” Bette said as she pulled open the door and Alex grinned, holding her helmet in her left hand. She regarded Bette with a professional eye, then with the eye of a lesbian, hot. Scorching hot, those dark pools of ebony that she used for eyes were deep enough to swim in.
“Detective Alexandria Pezinni is Tina here? I have a question to ask her. I also wanted to know how she was doing after the debacle.” Bette shook her head Helena had whisked her off to her mansion in the hills a few hours before. The uneasy truce they’d gained by the afternoon’s events was still holding maybe there was hope after all.
Bette sighed waving for the detective to come in and she did. She put her black helmet on the floor, and Bette smiled at the biker attire. She then saw the actual bike at the curb through the window, her eyebrows shot up and Pez laughed.
“Not exactly the BMW you were thinking of huh? So is Tina here?” Pez got serious suddenly, and she sniffed at the air, what was it? Just a smell of something that was on the edge of her brain, but she couldn’t quite grasp it. Why was it hauntingly familiar?
“Oh not she’s not. She is with her girlfriend Helena Peabody.” The distaste in Bette‘s voice was evident and Alex chuckled so she’d been right, Tina and Bette had been a couple. An odd couple Alex thought. Bette was very much Power Suits and Business Lunches, and Tina was Mother Earth and Giving Back To The Community. It was true, opposites attract.
“Oh, ok. I wanted to see if she was doing all right after this afternoon, but I’m sure she is. The question’s can wait actually just a few things she forgot to fill out in the report. I’ll see her one of these days.” Bette was almost disappointed that the detective didn’t have any questions for her. Pez bent and picked up her helmet and opened the door. Letting herself out, not everyone liked having the police at their doorstep. “Hope to meet you again under a different set of circumstances Ms. Porter.” Pez said and walked through the door, leaving Bette staring at her ass. Alex jogged to her bike wondering if she and Vanessa might have dinner tonight, that would be nice she thought.
Bette was about to close the door when she saw a slip of paper she picked it up and yelled to Alex, she was sure it was the detective’s. Alex had her helmet on and she didn’t hear her, instead she gunned the bike and was gone.
“Damn.” Bette said she saw scribbling on the paper she was curious and she opened it. She wanted to know if it was Detective Pezinni’s paper. She read the neat writing.
Pittsburgh, in December of 2001. Orlando Florida in April of 2002. March of 2003, New Jersey. North Caroline in June of 2003. August of 2004, LA. Back yard. No pattern. Scattered, yet killer organized.
Bette looked curiously at the paper, the dates and the year were vaguely familiar, why was that? She bit her lip, thinking as she walked to the back of the house, and found her Palm Pilot, a gift from Tina. She let a finger trail over the screen, thinking back to better days.
She found the first date, December 2001. There had been an art show at the Pittsburg Institute of Fine Arts. She then found Orlando, April of 2002. Another art show, both of them were shows that lasted a month. Again, New Jersey. March of 2003 there had been a huge 9/11 benefit auction, millions of dollars worth of art.
“There cannot be a connection. Bette you are not a detective, leave it to the professional.” Bette said snapping the Pilot closed and going to call Shane she was in the mood to hit the scene tonight. She wondered if Shane was too, she certainly thought she would be. Shane always liked to let off some steam, and that is what Bette needed to do tonight.
She was in need of some stress relief and she most certainly wasn’t flying to New York to get ‘some’. The wedding was in three days, and she wasn’t going to be flying to New York, but she also didn’t want Crystal at the wedding. She didn’t think she was ready to have Crystal in a public venue with her, where she was at Crystal‘s total beck and call.

Tina rolled over on the bed, a dream played out in her head as she made a face. Helena touched her cheek she’d been awake for an hour. Tina hadn’t stopped moving, and she’d been awoken by the tossing and turning. There was concern in Helena‘s face the events of the day had been insane. Tina seemed rather nonchalant about it, and Helena wasn’t sure that was a good thing.
“Tina.” Helena said in a soft voice, but Tina didn’t stir instead she moaned softly. Helena brushed away the stray blonde hair from her face, and she kissed the tip of her nose.
“Bette…” Tina muttered in her sleep. Helena sighed her teeth clenched at the name of Bette Porter. She didn’t like Bette, for reasons well beyond her wanting Tina Kennard back after straying. She disliked Bette because Bette was everything she couldn’t be. Her mother, Peggy had met Bette a few times, and she loved her. Absolutely loved ‘!’ the woman. For Helena, the adopted child of a billionaires that was hard to hear.
“Oh….” Tina moaned sitting up in the king sized bed slowly and Helena took her into her arms and Tina held her stomach. Tina felt the dull pain in her stomach, and she didn’t like the feeling at all. She was starting to panic, no not again.
“Tina, what’s wrong is it the baby? Tina?” Tina said nothing, she tried to roll out of bed, and she stood, unsteady. She swallowed back the fear, and she leaned on the dresser.
“I’m ok.” Tina said, and Helena looked down, and saw the spot of blood on the pale yellow sheets. Tina saw it too but she forced the image from her mind as she reached down, now the panic really flooded her. Earlier in the day, she’d feared for her life, and now she feared for the life of her child. The latter was much scarier, and so much deeper.
“Oh god, Tina you’re bleeding.”
