    The phone call

    Alice – well its now or never she said to herself as she picked up the phone and dialed an all too familiar number, hoping that it would connect after all these years.

     

     

    Alice settled herself into the couch as the number she had dialed began to ring, She was about to put the receiver down when she heard a familiar voice.

     

    Shane felt her pocket vibrate, she took out her phone but didn’t recognize the number that appeared on the caller id.

    Shane – excuse me guys, Hello

    Alice – Hi Shane

    Shane – Hi sorry I don’t recognize your vo….

    Alice – It’s me Shane Al

    Shane – Alice Oh my god how the fuck are you?

    The group of women sitting at the table all stopped what they were doing or saying and turned round to look at Shane.  Dana’s mouth falls open in surprise of hearing Alices name and she drops her fork onto her plate and stabs herself in the elbow, winces then leans forward trying to hear Shanes half of the conversation, as do the rest of the women. Bette is trying to say something to Tina, Tina nudges and sshh’s her, Bette looks to the ceiling and raises her eyebrows..

    Alice – I’m good thanks Shane look I know I haven’t called in such a long time and I am truly sorry but….

    Shane – look Al don’t worry ok I haven’t exactly been the best friend in the world either, none of us have, lets agree that we all suck at this keeping in touch shit ok.

    Alice – ok, sounds good to me. god it’s good to hear your voice and words of wisdom yoda,  she says as she smiles and laughs to herself.

    Shane – so Al how’s London treating you?

    Alice – well that’s what I’m calling for Shane I’m not in London I’m in LA

    Shane – your in LA?, when did you get here? I could have picked you up from the airport Al, you should have called. Where you staying Al?

    Alice – I got here this morning, and its ok we’ve rented a house, the rest of our stuff should arrive by the end of the week.
