    Lost & Found, Ch 6

TINA- “Cheers. And only temporarily lost. I did mange to find the Planet after all!”

BETTE- “Yes, this is true.” (She smiles and their eyes meet briefly.)

    TINA- “Young lover?”

    BETTE- “Excuse me?”

    TINA- “Your young lover…how young?”

    BETTE- “Oh…a few years younger.”

    TINA- “Didn’t end well?”

BETTE- “It never really ends well does it?”

TINA- “Some can be better than others….just better or worse…but all goodbyes can be painful I suppose.”

    BETTE- “Mmm.”
    TINA- “No regrets then?”

BETTE- “No, it had to happen.”

TINA- “Good, I guess there’s one good thing about it.”

BETTE- “Mhm. And you? Was it better or worse?” (Tina chews her food as she glances at Bette. She shrugs her shoulders a bit. She doesn’t answer the question.)

    BETTE- “Sorry…”

    TINA- “No, no…it’s ok…fair’s fair.”

BETTE- (She moves on…) “Jeff seems nice.”

TINA- “He’s great. Great brother. It’s funny, sometimes he seems to know me so well. I feel lucky to have him in my life. Kit certainly seems great.”

BETTE- “She is. Used to be a musician.”

    TINA- “Wow, that’s great.”

    BETTE- “Yep.”

TINA- “I just have Jeff, you have any other siblings? Your parents are still around?”

BETTE- “No, just Kit.” (Tina waited for a moment for the rest of the answer, but one wasn’t coming.)

TINA- (She glances up at Bette as the elegant face sat silently and leaned towards her food to take another bite.) “So, I really appreciate Alice inviting me to the reception this Friday…”

BETTE- (She looks up and almost jumps to her next words…) “I’m so glad you can make it…or…well…I mean if you have nothing else I would…we would be happy to see you there…” (‘What the hec was THAT?’ Bette though to herself.)

TINA- “Well, unfortunately, I can’t make it.” (Bette looked at her like she was hoping for more words that would amend Tina’s response…something to save the answer from its effect…) “Yeah, I found out at the last minute that a relative is going to visit and Jeff and I have to spend some time with her because she’s leaving again on Saturday morning. I love her, but that really sucks, I was hoping to attend the reception. Looking forward to it, so was Jeff.” (Bette feels funny…an unsettled feeling grips her. She looks at Tina as the blonde plays with her food.)

    Comments

    1. Well that went well between the two of them. I’m sure the next time they meet, Bette won’t be so awkward. Although I love a unsure and vulnerable Bette. What is the age difference between B&T in this story?

    2. You’ll just have to take my word for it that I would neither read nor comment if I felt this story was lame. As others have noted, it’s fun to see Bette a bit unsettled and not a smooth operator in Tina’s presence. But I was disturbed to find that her young lover was only a few years old-that doesn’t make her a Lothario, that makes her a creep! (I’m just kidding, I know it was a typo.) Are you suggesting that Tina’s early daliance with her Italian babysitter instilled lesbian tendencies in her? (God, all this sex with children in this chapter!)

    3. Woe there…definite typo…no child porn intended…meant to say that Bette was just a few years older. I’ll see if I can go in and correct it. Oh my goodness…I had no idea I was accidently creating so much controversial content! That’s funny. But just to make sure there’s no misunderstanding….The daliance with the babysitter would not in my mind cause anything as far as her sexuality, and I don’t mean to imply that, but it’s just meant as humourous point of reference that she may view as a coincidence and ironic part of her revelations about herself as she experiences her feelings and thoughts in the recent part of her life. Ahem. Hope that explains it. It’s a creative tool entirely…no statement intended of the author’s beliefs etc. so forth and so on. Lothario, by the way AmandaMG if you’re still out there, is sometimes defined as follows: The name has come to mean any handsome seducer, generally male…of course here its female. Thanks a lot for your comments ladies. Probie…the age difference is no more than 10 years and basically the similar difference they’ve dramatized on the show. Okay…I’ll go consult a lawyer now! Thanks for your comments. It’s great to hear from you all.

    4. Ok…now I’m thinking about the babysitter…ahem…and i’m sitting in a parkette trying to find a wireless internet connection as i watch people and cars go by. Okay…just so it’s clear…the babysitter’s kiss is assumed by the writer and hopefully her readers to have been well-intentioned as just being in the spirit of an affectionate young married European woman…meaning she’s not gay…the babysitter, who’s not even a character really in the story…so i guess this is some unexpected backstory…was just, if anything, being affectionate with the little girl she cared for…so I hope that came across that way and not that the babysitter was trying to engage the young Tina in any lewd acts…’cause that’s NOT at all the intention…at all…nada. And i’ve fixed the other part of the story so that Bette isn’t mistaken to have been having an affair with a 4-yr old…ahem…oK…hope that addresses any concerns that might arise and while funnyone may have just been trying to be funny…I’m just being cautious in case anything came across weird…hope that’s all ok now. Ok…I have to go ’cause there’s a lot of wind right now…thanks ladies!

    5. Ahhhh refreshingly sweet and light at the end there. Can I just add that I was hoping that maybe the Italian babysitter was some sort of inspiration that could have been responsible for those tendancies. I’m finding Italian really IS good. * wink * Loving it, bring on more Merlin.

    6. Merlin…I try to be positive and encouraging to the writers who post here b/c I don’t have the gumption or fortitude to do so. And with your writing ability, it’s easy to compliment the author. :-)

    7. Great update!! Can’t wait to see how everybody comes together and what the connections are. Is the relative coming to town for the event at the gallery or is it a conincidence that she leaving the day after. PPS

    8. A chapter every single day merlin yippieeeeeeeeeeee. And that’s how you kiss mummy, still laughing! those europeans are lovers aren’t they. Boss lady is kicking some serious butt today, what i wanted completed by yesterday hasn’t and we’ve had 17hr of server wind and rain!!!!

    9. I love how they spent time together getting to know one another. Even if there was slight feelings that they can not explain. The sweet dialog that passed between the two woment was a breath of fresh air. I feel that they learned some important information during that time together.

    10. Loved your explanations in the comments section TMerlin. I have to admit while I was reading the babysitter part, my dirty mind did not go the ‘innocent affection’ route—lol. I was thinking Tina’s mom had better have been more than a little upset :). I love how you are having Bette and Tina slowly reveal their secrets to one another, although I can’t wait for you to let us in on them. Great post. Anxiously awaiting the next.

    11. Merlin I’m so glad you decided to continue with this story. you’re building the tension perfectly with all of the different story arcs intersecting and interweaving. Lord help us when they all come together!! PPS you got me on the edge of my seat.
