BETTE- “Were you with your ‘beloved’ for long?”
TINA- (She glances and her…) “Hmm? Oh…no…my beloved…meaning New York City.”
BETTE- “You’re funny.”
TINA- “Funny ‘ha ha’ or funny ‘strange’?”
BETTE- “Let’s give it a few days and I’ll have a better idea…” (Tina laughs.)
TINA- “But it wasn’t just her.”
BETTE- “Uhhh…meaning…Manhattan?”
TINA- “No silly…”
BETTE- (She dramatizes…) “Well I dunno…” (Tina smiles…) “Her?”
TINA- “Hm?”
BETTE- (She anxious to have the story unravel quicker…) “Her…you said ‘her’…a woman broke your heart?”
TINA- “Jeff seems to think so.”
BETTE- “Jeff? What’s Jeff got to do with it?”
TINA- “Well, he thinks…well I don’t know…he seems to think I was in lo…well, let’s just say he has all these notions…”
BETTE- “Notions? You said she broke your heart…sounds like a woman broke your heart…or am I missing something and we ARE talking about Manhattan…”
TINA- “Nooooo…yes…a woman…but…”
BETTE- “Mhm…”
TINA- “Don’t mhm…”
BETTE- “Not mhming…just waiting for the answer is all…”
TINA- “Ohhh, I see…”
BETTE- (Looking mischievous…) “Said the blind man…”
TINA- (Glaring at her with some faked indignation, hoping it’ll mask whatever the hec it is that has occupied her gut and is tugging at her chest…) “To the deaf man…”
BETTE- (She looks at her smiling, her eyes wide…) “Pompous New Yorker…”
TINA- “West coast…California…” (Bette raises her eyebrows and makes a face as though to say… ‘Wellllll…’) “Oh you’re all a bunch of airheads…” (Bette laughs.) “Gawwwd.”
BETTE- “Okay…enough avoidance…she broke your heart…continue…”
TINA- “Gee you’re awfully nosy…”
BETTE- (She starts to overdramatize…) “You invaded my space, it’s the least you could do to explain why…” (Tina chuckles…) “I mean really, I came her for a peaceful stroll and some much needed contemplation and…”
TINA- “I’ve never been with a woman…”
BETTE- (Her throat seizes…) “OKAY then! Way too much information…” (She feels very nervous, deep down in gut…and the mocha skin is blushing…)
TINA- “Hey careful what you ask for Ms Lesbian Patrol…” (Bette looks at her and smiles. Tina’s eyes catch Bette’s and see a recalcitrant heart, a bit of fear, and the rest was a mystery…)
BETTE- “So…how did she break your heart?”
TINA- “Obviously not very carefully ‘cause I’m 3,000 miles from where I was only a few weeks ago and I have no idea where I’m going…” (She moans and falls back onto the sand. Bette chuckles as she looks down and back at Tina.) “I’m just totally lost.”

Merl this was an awesome update! Something about this line just popped out from the page —- “Bette, when you are engaged in the search of life you can never be lost…you seek and you will find…your heart, your soul, your life. When you’ve stopped looking, when you sit there and move nowhere, when you look around and just let life find you…then, you are lost…” I think if there is one small little “life lesson” if you will, it is just a profound piece right there. Thank you for that lovely shout out. I am very much aware at how meaningful the personal shout outs and opening author’s notes are to the readers. I’ll warn ya though, once you start them, they come to be expected!!!! LOL! Thanks so much for the update Merl, post soon won’t you??? ;-))
Ah crap, I hate when that happens. That “I love you, you like me” thing. But it probably is more rare that the feeling is mutual. It take it that with B & T they will eventually discover the feeling IS mutual.
love the dialog but what “recalcitrant” means? i was too lazy to check my dictionary…and don’t worry, my next chapter is coming and it’s hot and sexy…i think LOL

Absolutely love this story. I liked shane being protective of Justine and asserting herself when she corrected the pronunciation of her name, loved it. and, well, your slow dance with B & T is enthralling. you could feel Tina just tripping over every word and Bette having small heart attacks at the thought of what Tina really meant! Please post soon, I’m hooked and I need my fix.

So Bette already knows that feeling of loving someone and they not loving you. So Tina and Bette do share something, the case loving someone who does not love them. I think this time that situation will not be an issue. This story is probably closer to a real life situation than most of the stories. You get the real feeling that they are scared to get to know the other. Tina’s feelings sound so real to me (maybe because I have been there).

I´m glad Justine has Shane as a friend and that S hopefully looks out for her a bit. I think Tina should go to the gala and maybe B+T will realize that they already found each other, they just don´t know it yet. And don´t worry I will keep on reading, this story is too good to miss.
Merlin if i knew the answer, i would tell you. There’s a reason that your the writer and i’m the reader. Now 4 pages where getting somewhere. That was great as aways. I think tina needs to listen to her gut feeling and not with your head, she knows she likes bette, why not take the chance. Love is a fantastic feeling and let the girls find it the merlin way.Thank you just don’t keep me waiting to long
