LOVE AND PRIDE – Chapter 29
“Hello – hello dad “
Helena raised her eyebrows at Tina.
“I am fine dad — look – I need to tell you something – -something absolutely wonderful has happened to me. You better get a drink and sit down “

Bette indicated that she wanted to do this in private so Tina closed the kitchen door. Alone Bette sank onto the floor so she could stretch her calf muscles against the opposite wall.
“So Bette what is this news that you have ?”
Bette had been gearing herself up to tell her father sometime in the week but here was on the other end of the phone line from America – she may as well take the next leap into the unknown.
“You know that I have never dated anyone “
“Yes – are you telling me that you have found someone ? “
“Yes “
“That is marvellous news Elizabeth “
“Well I think it’s the greatest news ever but I don’t know how you are going to feel “
“How do you mean ?”
“All my life I have been an outsider and never really fitted in “
“There is nothing wrong with being an individual – I have always been very proud of that in myself and I know that it is a trait you have as well “
“Thank you dad – I have met someone who has utterly changed my life. That person is kind and gentle and warm and loving and I am “
Bette trailed off
“You are in love ? “
“Yes dad – I am in love for the first time in my life and I am happier than I have ever known “
“Tell me about this – person “
Bette struggled with keeping her descriptions gender neutral.
“My partner is intelligent – they are studying Law like Helena. We met through the Athletics Club and eh “
Bette trailed off — there was so much she wanted to tell her father about Tina but she had to get over the huge wall of actually saying her name and therefore telling him that she was a lesbian.

I don’t know how Helena can be so smug and still drink a mediocre beer like Budweiser. Maybe its the original from the Czech Republic, which may be better than it’s mass produced American cousin. Helena clearly knows better than to make problems for Tina, but is she going to be able to contain herself? Good for your version of Melvin for being what a father ought to be.
I’m glad your Melvin isn’t like the tv Melvin. Helena really needs to get over Tina, her ego or whatever her problem is because the ones that will get hurt are herself and Bette.

Whoa this Melvin shocked me…I am glad he is cool. Helena and Tina need to call a truce cause the only one hurt will be Bette. In a way I agree with helena …just because Tina is broke and has something against gifts she should not hold Bette back. Tina needs to get over the not having money factor…I mean she dosen’t need to be kept by Bette but if Bette wants to do something she can clearly afford Tina either needs to go along for the ride or not hinder Bette from doing so…it’s not fair to Bette.
I am glad that Melvin accepts B&T’s relationship, and am looking foward to his and Peggy’s reaction when they notice how Helena occasionally checks out Tina when she visits for Christmas. Helena needs to get over it before Dylan picks up on it. Something like this could cost her dearly, Dylan and her relations with her family. Since Bette is the younger and least experienced, they will all be on her side on this one. Happy Hoildays Ally :o)
I am surprised that Bette said that Tina is more important than Helena. Blood is thicker than water and they are GFs, anything can happen. I know they are soulmates but that’s just the new love speaking. Excellent story. If you could scrape up another chapter of “Silent Night”, it would be greatly appreciated. I love that story. There’s a purity and innocence about it.
I smell some major drama cookin’ in the kitchen.
Good thing for Bette that Melvin was so cool about her sexuality but i can smell a lot of problems that Helena will bring to B&T. happy hollidays!
I’m happy, I’m sad, I’m mad, I’m gald…..I’m confused. so great news Melvin accepts Bette and her reltionship w/ Tina but what about Tina and Helena. This is not good. The 2 are vying for Bette’s attention and in the long run it might be a battle that Helena can not win. I feel for Helena b/c she loves Bette so much and right now Tina is taking her sister awat from her and at the same time her pride is probably still in shock about the way things ended w/ Tina. I really hopr Helena and Tina find a way to share Bette b/c in the long run Bette is goin to suffer if Helena starts avoiding her and Tina. Thanks for another great chapter Ally. Just when i thought this chappy was going to be all roses and happy you brought on the drama…lol!
Helena needs to curb her jealousy or she will loose her sister in the process. Why is she so mad at Tina still? I know that Tina turned her down, but Helena should be happy for Bette and in the long run Tina. Maybe that is me, I would be happy for my sister or friend even though I would disagree with their lover.
