"Sure," I said my head down avoiding eye contact with Eric.

"Well hello there Bette," Eric said sarcastically with a smirk, "how are you enjoying my ex-wife?"

"Fuck off," I said under my breath.

"What did you say," he said, anger filling his voice.

"Back off," Tina said and Jackson stirred.

"B," Jackson said, and reached for me. I grabbed him and the bag and I walked away. I put Jackson in his car seat and he moaned and grimaced.

"You doing ok buddy?"

"My head hurts B, I can’t breath through my nose," he said and frowned with his eyes closed.

"We’re gonna get you medicine, ok? You’ll feel better, I promise," I said and he nodded. I handed him his bear and he fell asleep. When I got in the car I saw Tina flip Eric off and start walking back to the car.

We drove to the after hours clinic and the doctor saw us quickly. The doctor determined Jackson had a slight head cold, possibly cause by all the swimming he did at the lake. He perscribed some meds and reassured us that Jackson would be feeling better in a couple days. We filled the perscription and went home. Tina bathed Jackson and put him to bed. I wanted to cancel family night but Tina insisted we still have it. She checked on Jackson every thirty minutes, but he slept through the whole thing, she woke him a couple times to give him some medicine.

She had put Jackson in our bed, Jackson’s furniture was set to arrive in a couple days. He slept inbetween us, and Tina and I just stared at each other, Jackson’s muffled breathing being the only sound we heard.

"Are you sure you want this," Tina asked, "alone time disrupted, sex disrupted."

"Of course I want this, sex can always be had anywhere anytime" I said and winked, she smiled and I kissed her nose, "in the midst of you and Eric fighting there came a point where Jackson saw me. He reached for me. He felt comfort in my presence and my embrace. There’s no way I am ever going to let him or you down. Never."

Tina smiled at me, tears glossing over her eyes. It was then that both her and I knew that Jackson did love me. He sought out comfort in my embrace and it made me so happy, happy that he knew he could count on me to make him feel better. We cuddled up to him, letting him know we were both here. That he could count on us always being there.
