From behind, Luke eyed Bette up and down. He wondered how his sister got so lucky. He was used to his sister dating beautiful women, but this one seemed to be completely devoted to her.
“You’re a runner too?” He asked as he finally reached her, “I should have known. You have a runner’s body.”
Bette rolled her eyes, “What do you want, Luke?”
“I was just saying hi. We haven’t really spoken or anything and I wanted to get to know you.”
“Listen, we’ll race back to the house. If you beat me, I’ll tell you all you want to know. If I beat you, I decide what I want to tell you and I can ask you what I want.”
“A bet, then?” Bette nodded, “I like you already.”
He took off sprinting down the coast. Bette knew that he would do that; he seemed like a cheater. Bette sprinted after him, being able to catch up within a matter of seconds. Neck and neck to the end, Bette broke away from him as she reached for the stairs that led back to the compound. Both of them were out of breath, Luke more than Bette.
“I win.” Bette said between drags of air, “And you may ask me one question.”
From the balcony, Helena watched her brother and her girlfriend interact. It was the moment of truth, she guessed. It was time when Bette would prove rather she’d be just like all the other girls.
“Do you love my sister?” He asked as he took a seat on the stair.
“I do. More than anything in the world.”
“But it’s my understanding you haven’t been together for very long.”
“It doesn’t take forever to realize that you love someone and that you don’t want to live without them. It doesn’t take more than 30 seconds to figure out that you need air to breath or whole day to recognize sunshine. When I look at her, I don’t see just one night.”
“You sound like the rest of them.”
“But the difference is that I have no intentions on fucking her brother.” Luke smiled, shaking his head, “What kind of sibling are you anyway? Who would steal their sister’s girlfriends? You’re lower than low. You’re scum. And I don’t understand how something so…ugly and wrong, someone like you, could come from the same place as someone as beautiful and caring and perfect, as Helena.”

Ash, let me say that it is good to put your emotions on paper,pc or whatever format you like. It helps us to feel better and analyze what bothers us personally and emotionally. I can understand some of the pain you might have had, long story showrt but I had and have a great dad who more than made up for some things as did Kit for Bette and now Helena. I truly enjoyed that Bette saw thru Luke and Helena was there to see and hear what Bette had to say to him. Now IMO it’s going to be Helena’s turn with Maxine. But dang did you have to not write out the lovemaking of Bette and Helena,,,LOL. Great chapter Ash!
Hahaha a big YAY for Bette for putting that scumbag check mate and I’m glad Helena heard every single word she said to him. I truly hope he has learned his lesson and leaves the house ASAP. As for Maxine, dang she has to get better in her timing LOL. I wonder how this breakfast thing is going to turn out next vause sitting there at the same table surrounded by two women who aren’t your biggest fan must set an awkward atmosphere. PPS
I hear you and appreciate the bond…although, you forgive and move-on, you are hesitant about inviting those who hurt you back into your life…especially, if there’s no proof they’ve changed their ways….love this story…it’s real and people experience it every day…WELL DONE!!
OMG I love the way Bette talked to Helena’brother, what did he think he was? I am sure he had learnt from it and would stopbeing after Bette. That was brillant. PPVS
It’s so great that Helena could overhear Bette give her brother the brush-off. There is no way that Luke will be able to split these two w/ his sneaky games. Great update, pps!
