    Saturday night

    “Not tonight.” Bette groaned.

    “Sorry, baby, but yes.”

    “Which way?”

    “The wrong way.  Remember the…”

“I know.  ‘Spring ahead’.” Bette reached for the clock.  “I like Fall better.”

    ~~

    Monday morning

“C.mon, Angelica,” Tina yelled into the room. “You’ve got to get ready for school.”

Angelica was snuggled with her cousins amidst the wolf pack and was struggling to awaken.

The matriarch and patriarch had awakened, confused, when they had heard Bette and Tina’s alarm clock a half hour earlier. The patriarch had padded over to his mate and whispered, “Is something wrong?”

“I don’t think so.  This happens sometimes.”

He nodded and settled down next to her and they both listened to the sounds of the house.

Tina’s yelling had awakened the rest of the pack.  The wolves groaned, annoyed at the loud noise that interfered with their sleep.

“What’s going on with them?” Red grumbled as he watched Angelica run out of the room, Little Bit and Trouble following close behind.

No one answered, partly because no one knew the answer but mostly because each one was hoping to not wake up so much that it would be difficult to fall back asleep.

    ~~

“No thanks,” Red snarled, coating his snarl with a layer of politeness.  “It’s too early for me.  Later, though.”

Bette was frustrated because she had not made much progress in her wolf lessons.  She had easily leaned French, Italian, and Spanish, had been a star Latin student, and could read well and speak a bit in German.  Yet, although the guttural wolf speech was eluding her, she had mastered the basic courtesies and the context of the tone sounds and, therefore, knew that her brother-in-law was, in some way, being sarcastic.

    “You’re welcome, Red.”

Not just Red, but the whole room was shocked to hear Bette speak in their language and the wolves fell silent in amazement.

    1. Thank you! But there’s really no need to trouble yourself (or even little bit yourself) over Tina’s interrogation tape. It was just a bad joke in bad taste. What else would you expect from IC? I mean we all know that Tina’s feelings about infidelity as seen on the show bear no resemblance to the nonsense she spouted for the cop, so why give all that silliness about her family ANY credence? Can Bette lie to any concerned neighbors about having gotten a rare foreign dog breed should they raise questions? I’m thinking Weho might well be the sort of place where people would like exotic pets.

    2. That was brilliant Spumoni! I love the wolf stories, but that has to be one of your best. Leave it to the animals to point out how stupid human behaviour can be!

    3. I imagine that particular mix of hooch would have a forty-somethin’ howling at the moon, so dreaming that your inlaws are a pack of wolves fits along those lines… I buy it *wink* Your powder room ref made me grin; ah, canon-remodel has its perks! … Good to have a post from you, Spumoni!! SK/C

    4. Wow–thanks! You did this just for me, right? Cause you knew I needed to laugh my socks off. Sorry I’ve been out of touch–will email soon. Your pack makes so much more sense than the humans I work with! Thanks for this.

    5. Only Hawaii and Arizona stay of standard time in the US. I hate the time change and agree with the wolf pack, it is not needed. I like your family much better than the one ic made up for Tina.

    6. Heh, an hour isn’t much… I’ve always thought “Cranky Hunter” Porter could probably alter the fabric of the space-time continuum through sheer force of will. The wolves are right to be fearful of her. Bette’d better call the pool company on the sly… just in case. Excellent as always, thanks Spumoni!

    7. I couldn’t stop laughing! You haven’t strayed. IC did. This is canon. And great timing for me as I adjust to this mysterious practise of playing with time, where Europe does 3 weeks late. I missed this and look forward to further chapters!! Thanks!!

    8. Hi there, dear sweet Spumoni! *waving* Ah! You shouldn’t pay any attention to those Interrogation tapes. They all are a bunch of garbage, sweetie. You are just wasting your precious time with them, dear friend. In this wonderful FF site, you story is alive and kicking. You know this wolfie story is our fav and we are always asking for an update. We simply adore the pack and the wolfies. Oh and what a way to return! That time with the wolfies in and out of the pool was just hilarious and so much fun! We also hate the Springtime shedule to switch to an hour earlier. Ugh! We are kinda compassionate about the poor wolfies. Plus we got to hear Bette’s former “call” for the wolfies. Hahaha Oh, Spumoni, thanks for bringing this update, which encourages us to declare ourselves addicted to your story. Thanks for sharing it with us. Hugs & kisses on both your cheek.- Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)
