    Moving On…9

Tina didnt know what to do. She just stood there for a while, staring back at Bette. She could feel her pain, and it was all too familiar. Michelle also just stood there for a second looking back and forth between both of them.

Michelle: Uh, Tina listen, maybe we should do this another time. I think you have some stuff you need to take care of.

Tina: Are you sure Michelle? I mean we were have a really

Michelle: (smiling) Hey, Im positive, go ahead.

Tina: Okay, well thanksIll call you tomorrow.

She gave Michelle a hug, trying not make it too close because she knew Bette was still watching. As Michelle walked to the entrance, Bette make eye contact with her. But she was too hurt to even say a word. She just looked down trying to keep herself together.

Tina walked over to Bette who was still at the entrance. But now instead of one tear, she had many flowing, unable to control them.

Tina: (grabbing Bettes hand) Do you want to sit down and talk?

Bette just looked down her hand in Tinas. This was the way their hands looked when they were vowing their love for each other at their wedding. But there was a difference this time; Tina did not have her ring on. She could feel her hear stop again.

    Tina: Bette?

Bette: (quietly) Yes, I want to talk.

Tina led them to a different table in the back patio. They sat down in silence at first.

Tina: Im sorry I dint call you Bette. Ive been meaning to. Its just Ive been so busy this week. Signing papers for my apartment, the lease, moving. I just havent had much time.

Bette: But you had time tonight to come out with Michelle. And from what I saw, it looked like it wasnt going to end anytime soon.

Tina: Bette, we are not going to even get into that, okay? You have absolutely no right to say anything.

Bette: I know, Im sorry. Its just that, Tina, I need you to come back home, baby. I need you T, please dont move.

Tina: Bette I told you I need some time away from you. I didnt just mean a week and everything would be okay. I really dont know how much time I need. But I know that right now I am not ready to put myself at risk of being with you and getting hurt like that again.

    Bette: (looking down) I understand.

Tina: Bette, away from you doesnt mean I never want to see you again. Its us I need to get away from. Getting away from Bette and Tina to find out who Tina is.

Bette: Well when can I see you again?

Tina: I dont know. The girls are going to help me finish moving this weekend. And then we are going to Milk after. We are going around nine, if you can come.

    Bette: Of course Ill come.

Tina: Okay good, well I have to get going

Bette: Wait; let me walk you to your car.

They walked out to Tinas car. Tina unlocked it and Bette opened the door for her. She turned around to tell Bette goodnight.

Tina: So Ill see you tomorrow night at nine?

Bette: (looking straight in Tinas eyes) I love you.

    Tina: Bette

Bette: Can I ask you something?

    Tina: Okay.

Bette: (holding Tinas left hand) Why dont you have your ring on?

Tina looked down at Bettes left hand holding hers. She could feel herself holding back the river of tears. She looks straight up at Bette.

Tina: (tears now falling) Because you havent given me a reason to put it back on.
