    My Mermaid

    My Mermaid

It was eight days ago that my world was full.

    Full of happiness.

    Full of laughter.

    Full of contentment.

And so very full of a very precious love.

Eight days ago we had shared our life together, we shared oysters, she fed them to me and I fed them to her, she found a solitary pearl, and questioned whether it was planted there or was it a gift from a mermaid. I took the pearl from her fingers and kissed it, I placed it into her cleavage and told her it was a safe place and that I would find it once again, later when I devoured her body.

Eight days ago we walked along the beach, hand in hand, watching the sunset over the calm horizon, and the gentle waves crashing onto the shore. We made love in the sand, the tender waves reached our toes, caressing the tips as we kissed, the waves moved further up our bodies as she screamed my name.

Eight days ago we lay in each others arms, in our bed, the smell of the ocean still upon our bodies, she asked me what she smelt like, i told her she was my mermaid.

It was seven days ago that my soul was ripped from my body.

Seven days since I stood with no cuts, no bruises and yet I had a profound pain that tore my body apart.

Seven days since the mono tone invaded my ears and the smell of disinfectant pervaded my nostrils.

Seven days since my eyes closed to slumber.

Seven days since I looked into anothers eye.

Seven days since I uttered a word.

Seven days since I have eaten a morsel.

Seven days since liquid has passed my lips.

And today, I drive into the deserted gravel car park and come to a halt.

I leave the keys in the ignition and exit the car. I walk around to the passenger side and open the door and lift the precious cargo into my arms.

I walk to the edge and look out upon the ocean, the gentle breeze moves my hair around my face, I see the horizon, beckoning me closer.

I retrieve the solitary pearl from my pocket and I lift the lid to my precious cargo, I gently kiss the pearl as I drop it into the grey dust within the porcelain urn. I replace the lid as a lone tear flows down my cheek. I love you, my sweet mermaid.

I place the porcelain urn beside my feet as I untie the black scarf from around my neck, I look for the last time at the ocean, this will be forever my home. I tie the scarf around my eyes and reach down for my love.

I wrap my arms tightly around the cold porcelain.

I lean forward and begin my flight, downward and downward, the wind whips my hair, the top of the container comes loose and the grey dust of my love swirls around me, enveloping me forever more, keeping me within her grasp, staying with me forever.

    I am no longer falling.

    I am floating.

    There is no pain.

There is no darkness. My blindfold has been removed.

I see blue, a glistening turquoise blue.

    My hair floats around me.

Her arms envelope me, pulling me closer to her, her blonde hair floats around my face as she leans in to kiss me, she brings her fingers up to my face. As I look down at her hand I see the pearl, she kisses it and places it into my open palm, I clench my hand around it tightly, forever in my grasp.

She pulls on my other hand and flicks her tail, we swim toward the horizon together.

We are once again reunited in our precious love.

    Me and my mermaid. Tina.

    1. I hope that you can sleep a peaceful sleep now that you got that down. It was sad and happy all at the same time, because they will be together for erternity. Your writing ability still amazes me my friend.

    2. now i won’t be able to sleep peacefully…thanks a lot (jk) i hate when such sad stories written so beautifully because then i can’t hate them…one suggestion, maybe you can change name Tina to Moira and nobody would cry ;)

    3. Jobadge…I’m glad you got that out of your system. Of course, now you’ve got it into mine! That’s a very touching piece of narration. I’m not sure what to say, but I’m with B&TF on this one…it’s really very emotion provoking and I almost wish you had changed the name ‘Tina’ to ‘Moira’ so I could be indifferent or laugh instead of be closer to tears than I have been in a while during a visit to this site.

    4. Don’t get me wrong, the story is unique and well written but Jo, are you OK? I think you may have gotten a tainted oyster. Or perhaps it was this season’s storyline, in which case I can understand having a reaction. Or are you a gaelic lass? Wishing you a rapid return to dry land and the land of the living.

    5. wow, amazing to think that there is such profound love like that in reality…that someone loves soooo much that they would feel no other way to live alone, by themselves…how could you be mad at them for that….tks

    6. well it must be all that sea air down there in Cornwall babe cos everything you write is fantastic and this is no exception. I have my doubts about your sanity but thats for other reasons – it is a rare treat to call you my friend. A x

    7. You have brought me to tears (the kind that shake your body). The pain of loosing the one you love and the fear of moving forward without them is overwhelming. I can understand the need to end it all to be with your lover. They sometimes call that insanity but I call it overwhelming love. (Okay, I knew that I have always be insane). Thanks for placing those emtions into words.

    8. Always at a loss for words with you… you have the ability to capture a moment… and manage to make me feel like im actually there…in this case a very emotional, sad one….Hope you feel better for writting it…cause you do it so well.
