    shane and carmen.

    Chapter 14 

     Mami:"So Shane, where do you live?"  Oh no! I really don’t want Mami to grill Shane with unneeded questions. 

     Shane:"I live right next door!" she answers casually not knowing where the next question is heading!

     Carmen: "NO preguntas mami?" and I give mami ‘the look’

     Shane just looks from me to my mami, not understanding or maybe half understanding what I just said. 

     Shane:"Oh no I am fine" she says! 

    Mami:"See mija Chane is fine! So Chane where are your parents,  hermanos?"  Shane seems soo shaken by the questions! I try to save her. 

     Carmen:"mami stop questioning her, let’s go fix the pl…." but I am cut off again by Shane. 

     Shane:"ummm…..my mom left me in the foster care when I was 6…and I think my Dad still lives in Austin Texas with my stepmom and half brother"

     mami:"you think…you don’t know?"

     Shane:"I have never met them" and Shane looks down….

     Mami goes around the room to pull Shane in a tight embrace, and Shane is caught by surprise. 

     Mami:"We are tu familia from now!! all are familia…Chane!" Shane smiles at me! and I nod!

     God my mami loves Shane, she just considered her as family on the first day! 

     Shane goes off to talk to Juan and the boys. Shane’s pretty good at those Playstation stuff. Then was fixing their hair for them. She’s pretty good at doing hair. 

     We all sit on our backyard to have the dinner. Shane is sitting beside me we hold hands, to say the prayer and "what we are thankful for". 

     I say that I am thankful to have such a wonderful family! Next its Shane’s turn!

     Shane:"I am very very thankful to Carmen to invite me to such a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner and to Ms. Morales for letting me stay and enjoy myself with the family."

     Mami:"Call me Mercedes, family calls by name, Chane" and I felt Shane give my hand a light squeeze. I smile that her. 

     After dinner everyone retires back home. Shane stays after to help with the dishes. 

     Mami:"Chane come upstairs with me!"

     Shane obeys and I come up with her too just incase….you never know what mami is upto. 

     Mami goes to her closet and gets out a dress. NO WAY!!!
