Chapter 26

Bette was already in bed and was waiting for Tina’s phone call. The week went by and it was now Friday night. This was also the first weekend that they would be spending apart after her surprise visit to LA, courtesy of Peggy. The house phone rings and she picked it up.

“Hi babe!” Bette sweetly greeted.

“Hi Bette. I like your greeting maybe I’ll use that some time.”

“Oh hi. I’m sorry I was expecting a phone call. Who’s this?” Bette inquired. A little bewildered at what just happened.

“Hi Bette, this is Jodi.”

“Oh, hi Ms. Lerner. How may I help you?”

“I told you Bette, please just call me Jodi.”

“Yeah, so what’s up Jodi?”

“Well, there are a couple of things that I’d like to discuss about the exhibit and I was wondering if we can talk about them?”

“We can certainly do that Jodi but I hope you don’t take this negatively but I think it would be best if we discuss it over the week. You see, it’s the weekend and I treasure my time off from the office. Besides, I really have another phone call that would be coming in soon. How about I ask my assistant to schedule a meeting for us over the week?”

“I would agree on that only if it is a lunch meeting.”

Bette gave a mental sigh. “I’ll see what my assistant can do, ok?”

“That would do. For now. Good night ba… Bette.” With that Jodi hanged up.

“AAAAAARGH!” Bette screamed then the phone rang.

“Hello?”

“What’s up with the cautious greeting, baby?” Tina asked.

“Oh goodness. Thank goodness it’s you.”

“What’s the matter, Bette.”

“Jodi rang and I thought she was you so I gave my “Hello babe” greeting. Much to my surprise and dismay it was her. She said she wanted to discuss a couple of things about the exhibit and she wanted to do it tonight. I of course declined and offered to setup a meeting next week.”

“Ok. That sounded better.”

“Oh, it gets better, Tee. She said she’ll only agree to the meeting if it’s a lunch meeting.” Bette whined.

“That bitch!” Tina muttered.

“What was that, babe?” Bette asked with a smile. She heard Tina but she wanted her to repeat it.
