Chapter 3

Present day

Bette and Tina were making toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and orange juice. This was part of their tradition as this was Tina’s favorite breakfast concoction. Bette was preparing their breakfast by the pool and she called Tina once she was done. They ate their breakfast in comfortable silence and once they’re done Bette insisted that she clear the table. Once she was done she went outside and asked Tina to get dressed.

“Hey, Tee? Would you mind getting dressed? I want us to go out by the beach and catch some sun.” Bette said cheerfully.

“Do we really have to get out Bette? We can get sun from here and you do have a pool you know.” Tina said.

“Don’t be a spoilsport. Come on! I really would like us to go out. We’d be back after lunch.” Bette was now pouting.

“Cake.” Tina said with much reluctance. She really couldn’t resist Bette when she starts to pout. She’s just too cute.

“Pie!” was all Bette said.

They arrived at the beach and Bette led Tina by the hand. Tina was wearing a black bikini beneath a blue tank and white shorts. Bette thought she would faint when she first saw Tina come out of her room. She has always been athletic and her body was to die for. It has always been hard for Bette to see both men and women checking Tina out. She can’t blame them, she always says but her protective streak just won’t put it to rest. Bette on the other hand was wearing a white bikini beneath a white razorback shirt and shorts. She earned a little ribbing from Tina when she got out of her room once she was dressed.

“Hoot! The girls and boys are all gonna fall at your feet, Bee!”

“Don’t be jealous, Tina. You are my favorite girl today. So you don’t have anything to worry about.” Bette said with a wink. Tina just laughed at Bette’s antics.

This is something that always baffled Tina. At one point in college she asked Bette how come she wasn’t dating any guys. She was clearly attractive, funny, warm and intelligent yet she has never seen Bette with a guy. That was when Bette explained to her that she was gay. Bette thought that Tina would feel off after that admission but nothing changed. Except that afterwards Tina’s question was how come Bette weren’t dating any girls? The question stopped when Bette started dating a girl named Nicole. They seem to be hitting it off but Nicole broke it off with Bette. When Tina asked Bette what happened Bette just said that it wasn’t working and that Nicole wanted more than what Bette could offer. It was actually Nicole that made Bette realize that her heart belonged to somebody else who was not Nicole, Amber nor Alex. And that it actually belonged to one woman. And that woman was Tina Kennard.
