Never Love You Enough – Chapter 10

“She is my girlfriend.” Tina made clear, when her mother didn’t react she sighed. “I’m gay and I have a girlfriend.”

    Leslie sighed. “Why?”

“Why? I was born this way Mom, I can’t help it.” Tina explained.

“Do you… love… her?” Leslie asked, it was hard to ask her daughter that.

“Yes, I do.” Tina answered honestly.

“How long are you together with her?”

Tina bit her lip. “More than two weeks.”

“That’s not long.” Her Mom concluded.

“That’s true but I really love her, we just had this instant connection.” Tina got this dreamy look but her Mom cleared her throat.

“How long are you… do you know you are gay?”

Tina was surprised by her Mother’s calmness. “I have always felt different but I realized I’m gay when I was 13.”

“Why did you never tell me?” Leslie wanted to know.

“I was scared for your reaction. Dad and you never acted as if you are okay with gay people. I was scared you would throw me out before I was able to stand on my own two feet.” Tina explained.

Leslie sighed. “I am not happy with this, not at all but Tina, you are my daughter and you’ve done everything you can to help me and your siblings.  I am not going to turn my back on you because you are a l… le… lesbian… It’s really hard for me to say.”

Tina smiled a small smile. “It’s okay. You did and that is good.”

Leslie smiled. “Can you tell me about your… girlfriend?”

Tina nodded. “Her name is Bette Porter. She is 37 and owns an art gallery. We met in the park and it was… love at first sight.  She has a sister, Kit Porter who owns a café, The Planet and Kit has two kids Susan or Sue and Stephan. Sue is a friend of Roxanne. Bette is half African-American… I don’t know what else to tell you.”

    “Half African-American?” Leslie frowned.

    “Uh, yeah.” Tina reacted.

Leslie shook her head. “Couldn’t you find yourself a nice white girl?”

Tina shook her head. “What does it matter? I mean, she is still a person. She loves me; she treats me right and is the most amazing woman I’ve ever met. “

“And what about her age? 15 years difference? Isn’t that a bit much?”

“Again, what does it matter? It’s not because she is older that we don’t fit together.” Tina defended her relationship.

Leslie nodded. “When you were with her you seemed very in love.”

    “I am.” Tina smiled.

“Maybe… I should meet her.” Leslie said, hesitating a little.

    Tina smiled. “Really?”

“Yes, really. I meet every boy- or girlfriend of my children so why not yours?” Leslie smiled a little.

Tina stood up and hugged her mom. “Thanks, it means the world to me.”

When they pulled back. “What about next Sunday? Maybe she can have dinner with us here.”

    Tina grinned. “That sounds wonderful.”

“Good.” Leslie smiled. “Now, go to sleep, it’s late.”

“Good night, Mom. I love you.” Tina said.

“Good night, doll. I love you to.” Leslie smiled and Tina walked to the rom she shared with some of her siblings.

    Comments

    1. Great update. However, where Tina’s mother is concerned I smell a rat. Feel like Tina’s mother will be up to no good with Bette. I don’t think she likes the idea of Tina with a woman. Surely she won’t try to break them up or try to make her date a guy. She was with one and what good did it do her, too many children and no place of her own to care for them and a no good husband that cared for no one but himself.

    2. Tina she seems much mature for her young years, and she is really in love with Bette, I love it. But what is the matter with her mother is she going to treat Bette right or what?
