    New Girl in Town-Chapter 12

Two days went by and I still hadn’t heard from Siobhan and Lara hadn’t returned my multitude of calls.  I sat on the couch, staring at the blank television.  So many thoughts were running through my head.  I knock on the door drew my attention from the daydream.  I sighed heavily and walked over, pulling it halfway open.
I was, indeed, more than shocked to see Shane there.  I stood there frozen for a few moments.  Shane gave a nervous smile before I cleared mythroat and opened he door to let her in.
"Hi- I." I had no idea what to say.
"How’s your lip?" Shane asked as she moved to take a seat on the couch.
"It’s a lot better thanks. Can I get you something to drink?"

Shane shook her head. I nodded and took a seat on the recliner.  We sat in silence for a few moments, exchanging worthless smiles before Shane spoke up.
"I just wanted to tell you that I saw your roommate and her boyfriend at the planet today."
Something in the woman’s voice told me that there was more than just that.  I shrugged, trying my best to seem nonchalant.

"Good for Siobhan." I said coolly.
"Its not just that…She didn’t look too good.  Just thought I should tell you." Shane said looking downward.
"Well I did hit her…." I reminded Shane.
"Yeah but you didn’t beat half her face black and blue." She responded looking up.

I grimaced, I hated to be rightr, but I had driven Siobhan away and there was no way that I could help her out now.
"If I knew where she was- that would be great.  But Siobhan made it clear she doesn’t want my help anymore."

    Shane frowned.
"What about LAra?" she said, a knowing look in her eye.
I felt something in me break.  I looked down, the tears welling themselves in my eyes.  Shane walked over and sat on the arm rest.
"It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that you two are in love. And here you sit, just, letting her go?"

I shook my head and sniffled, wiping the tears away from my eyes.  Shane leaved over and pulled me into a hug for a moment before standing me up.
"Come on, I’m going to help you patch things up with Lara."
"She won’t return my calls…and…why do you want to help me? I mean, you barely know me."
"That’s why you go to her work. And because you’re a good person JAke. Everyone needs a little help." Shane said with a smile.
