New York Minute – chapter 39

    New York Minute

    Chapter 39

    “Hello Tina “

Tina turned and smiled at Casey “Hey there “

“I was getting concerned about you – Bette’s dropped Angie off for the last few days – you okay ?”

Tina liked the Australian woman – so far she was the only friend she had made so far since moving to New York. She was aware that she was becoming more isolated and that was never a good omen for their relationship.

Tina nodded “ I have been feeling a little under the weather and Bette is so good with Angie that I usually feel redundant in the mornings because they have quickly got a routine worked out”

Casey pulled a face “Mm – Jess is like that – it can be useful and it can be utterly annoying”

Tina laughed “ You want a coffee – or do you have things to do ?”

“Let me think – Jess’s dry cleaning to pick up, a pedicure at 1:30 and getting some new winter boots for our pride and joy Bella – nah – I think I can slot you in “

Tina could empathise with Casey’s sarcastic description of what her day had ahead of her.

“Great – I could do with someone just to talk to – lets go “

The two women headed out of the school gates and started heading towards the same café they had been previously.

“Happy to help – do you know Jocasta’s mother ?”

“Jocasta ?” Tina said raising an eyebrow

“Yes – lets just say that I think one of the lessons we need to learn fast as parents of children who have just started school is not to blink twice when you hear some weird name “

    “You are probably right “

“Anyway – she started chatting to me yesterday and she suggested a coffee so we went off ““And ?”

Casey rolled her eyes “ I know that I am a little off beam at times but fair dinkum mate “

    “Fair dinkum ?” Tina said

Casey laughed “You can take Australia out of the girl but not the other way round. Sorry – where was I ? oh yeah – lets just say I didn’t think it was possible to have as little in common with another woman “
