    No Me Ames; #19

“Maybe later,” I replied, fiddling to stir my coffee.

She turned her attention back to me, smiling, “How have you been?”

“I’ve been ok…I’ve been better,” I replied, looking into her friendly and sincere brown eyes.

She sighed, “I know what you mean…I understand how tough it is to lose the person you love.”

“How was it like when Leisha passed?” I asked.

“Well,” she replied as the waitress served her drink, “To be honest, I’ve never felt so lost in my life. It was hard even going home because…everything around me reminded me of her. Every smell, each corner of the house…I had such a hard time sleeping because I would dream of her and wake up thinking she’d…she’d still be beside me.”

I looked down at my coffee in silence, absent-mindedly pushing my hair behind my ear, lost in my own thoughts, “I had a dream about her last night,” I confessed, my voice near a whisper, “Actually, I’ve been dreaming about her a lot.”

“It will take time,” Tasha said, throwing me a comforting grin, “I know that it doesn’t feel like it will right now because…the pain can be excruciating…”

    “It is…it really is.”

    “How’s your daughter? Rebekah?”

“She’s an angel,” I said, laughing a little as my thoughts shifted to Becky, “She’s been so strong through all this. It’s hard to believe she’s only six. She’s mature way beyond her years. She reminds me of Bette in so many ways…she mimics her mannerisms…her little habits…the words she uses…she’s my little miracle.”

Tasha laughed, “Children can be such a blessing.”

Our conversation drifted back and forth between our shared loss of our loved ones, and other parts of our lives. I told her about work at Dragonfly, Becky, my friendship with Alice and Tina; and she shared with me about her going back to work full time for an advertising company and how work helped take her mind off her pain.

Three cups of coffee and two hours later, I found myself completely lost in our conversation. It was so nice to talk openly to someone about my own nightmares since Bette’s passing.

Tasha glanced down at her watch, “Oh no,” she said.

    1. Hello My Beautiful Dragonfly… OMG did Bette do it… did she send Helena a gift before she passed in order to help Helena move on and realize she never stopped loving her… I think that is what this is… is it huh is it… love and hugs, Always and forever, JC (Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels and the ever loving Cuzzie to the ever talented Eunichick, the sweetest of the sweets patpez and Personal Fanner to the Incredibly Talent Deean)

    2. Holy Shit! That was some reaction! Is JC right? Sounds more than plausible…but…wow…talk about hearing a ghost! Would Bette really do that? Can’t wait to find out! Always a pleasure to read your words…makes my day! Thanks, euni :) PPS, eh?

    3. OMG,it’s not Bette is it? This is scary OMG. Hope Helena willlisten toitbecause it could only be Bette who knew that she will not be there for her birthday. Helena needs to listen to wie words Bette said. I still hurt, I ope Becky will remember her motherand how she loved her. PPVS

    4. It’s gotta be Bette…she had to have left it for Helena to help her through her b-day. Becky will remember her mother…my niece was almost 2 when my grandmother, her great grandmother, passed away. She had spent every day with my mom helping with my grandmother…she had dementia and cancer. She still after 8 months says “I used to take a shower with Mammaw in here.” and always looks for her lipstick in the bathroom drawer. So Becky will remember her Mamma B. Little kids will surprise you like that. They remember lots you don’t think they do.

    5. Now this is an unexpected twist – hmmm — my guess is that it is from Tina. There is something between those two that is more than friendship. I just don’t think Helena’s realized it yet.

    6. I also think Bette arranged for Helena to get this special presenton her 40th B-day and I understand Hl’s reaction very well, she must think this is some kind of sick joke. Hopefully she will bring herself to listen to it and realize once more how much Bette loved her. Great update eunibaby :)PS I’m doing ok, I guess

    7. Hiya Cuz, what a chapter this was, Helena finally spoke with Tasha and she helped her out how and what she went thru when Leisha passed away. Thank goodness for her friends to help her and especially her daughter. Now I am thinking that Bette was the one who sent her the Ipod for her b-day. IMO she knew that she was dying and planned ahead, actually my later Uncle did that he planned for a year so that my Aunt would have things sent to her on b-day,anniversary, xmas and well you get what I am saying. Now I wonder what was the song or message that was on the iPod? Great chapter Prima ;)

    8. Great update! I hope this is a message from Bette. Helena needs to know that she was loved by that woman. And she would not have left her or their daughter if she had a choice. She has to listen if she wish to move on. She owes Bette that. Love has no limits. Even in death it will live on.

    9. A voice from the past.My husband voice is still on the answering machine, Wouldnt take a million dollars for it. We have an old 8mm film with him sitting on the hearth on Christmas eve reading the Night Before Christmas and my four boy sitting on the floor looking and listening. So children do remember.much more that you know. I do believe that if you are around some one for a long time, for yrs you pick up traits for that person, Like the baby doing thing like Bette, so do adults Tina was their friends for yrs so she could pick up on things that Bette said or did. I do think that Tina might be in love with Helena and has been for yrs. If the I-Pod was from Bette It is ti reasure Helena her deep love that she had for her, andthat that love shouldn;t be forgotten but she need to love again and have a happy long life of happiness.

    10. The only good thing about having been sick for the past two weeks is that, when your stories moves me to tears, I don’t have to explain my swollen eyes and runny nose. Your description of Helena’s suffering is immensely moving.
