    Not The End, Chapter 15

“Then what do you call it, Bette?”

“She hasn’t left me until she tells me she’s leaving.”

I notice Alice look down for a second before looking back up at me and nodding.

“I’m glad you haven’t started drinking like last time.”

“I have a daughter now, she comes first.”

“She does.” Alice looks at me and smiles. “You nearly drunk and smoked yourself to death, and Tina will I told Tina she was eating her weight.”

“But she was really pregnant with our daughter.” Bette smiled. “I thought I lost her forever when she first left me, I thought it was the end of us.”

”You two always find your way through your troubles and find your way back to each other.”

    “We do.”

“Because you two are meant for each other.”

“I wish we could just get a break.”

“You two have to work this through.”

“Since Jenny’s passing it’s been hard to sell the house, we were finally getting everything together and moving to New York, now Tina’s job is being put on hold until we can get this place sold, it was the only thing we had left to do and now this…now we’ve fallen apart again. I just want her to believe me Alice because i’m speaking nothing but the truth to her when I tell her nothing happened between Kelly and I, I don’t want anyone else but Tina for the rest of my life, I just want her to talk to me. I just want her to believe me so we can get on to our new life together in New York.”

“It’s time, time that is good for some and worse for others. Sometimes waiting is good and then sometimes the waiting kills, waiting for Tina to talk to you isn’t something you want to wait for but you have to give her that time no matter how you feel about it, it’s probably for the best.”

“Has Tina said anything about me?”

“She feels like you’ve betrayed her with lying again Bette and that’s the hardest for her. And she’s told me she stills loves you and always will love you, she just isn’t ready to talk because she’s having a hard time believing you.”

I look down and run my free hand that wasn’t holding my beer through my hair before I look back up and take a sip from the bottle.

    1. You can actually feel their pain b/c your writing is so true and realistic. They need to try to truly listen to each other w/o recriminations or spite. Believe in their love for each other.

    2. I read this story sporadically because I truly can’t handle all the angst.. I’m just waiting for some kind of break in it cause it’s just so much… I’ll keep checking back in hopes that things start to move in the right direction cause Wow so much angst…

    3. First, I have to confess that I can’t remember how Bette lied. I tried to re-read the early chapters, but too probably too quickly. Did she lie about Kelly coming over the night of the opening? Bette needs to tell Tina, “I lied (?) because I didn’t think you’d believe the real story, and I’d lose you and Angie, and that would kill me. I should have trusted you to believe me, but there’s the truth.” All this non-communication… argh!… have they learned nothing?! ;) (Obviously you’ve got your readers involved.)

      • ”Bette decided to never tell her about anything, not about Kelly coming over the night after the gallery opening or about the video that was out there somewhere by Jenny.” Thanks for reading and your feedback :)
