Notes from Underground – Lovesong, Ch. 1

I watched them talking, standing very close, almost intimately close. Solange was looking at the other woman with such hunger in her eyes I thought she would eat her alive right there and then. The other brunette was very intriguing but she was standing with her back to me and I couldn’t see her clearly.

They finally stopped talking and toasted their champagne glasses when the second woman turned around and looked right at me. She was so beautiful, she took my breath away…and the time stopped.

    Los Angeles, Present Day

Bette hung up the phone and wiped the tears that formed on the corners of her eyes, threatening to spill. If she was honest with herself Bette would admit that the tears were not just for her father. Melvin was sick for a long time. Bette kept telling herself that even if she knew that the end was near, she was still not prepared when that happened.

She’s been grieving for her father for the last week since he passed away but she knew in her heart that Tina was also at the center of that grief. After a year of soul searching and nursing her ailing father Bette could finally admit that she made a mistake when she let Tina go. Huge and possibly irreversible mistake.

Tina didn’t have one evil bone in her body and she probably forgave her a long time ago but Bette was afraid that she missed on that second chance with the one person who always completed her, who was her true love and a soulmate.

Bette let the tears fall freely and curled up in her bed. It was comfortable and cozy but Bette was too anxious to sleep, knowing that in just a few hours she will see Tina again after all this time.

    Three Years Ago: Bette’s narrative

I spent three weeks planning the latest artist’s dinner at my gallery and everything was running quite smoothly until a blonde vision in green looked at me, smiled and I was lost in her beautiful hazel eyes. But I should probably start from the beginning.

I opened my little gallery a few years back after I bought it from its former owner, Franklin Phillips. I worked there as a curator and when Franklin decided to retire he made me an offer that I couldn’t resist. My sister, Kit Porter, became the co-owner and we put all our savings into this venture. I just turned thirty and I knew this is what I really wanted, to have my own gallery and to show everyone how the artists use art as a narrative to express their view of the world.
