    The aftermath.

    It was later in the day on Tuesday that Alice and Dana arrived at the Kennard-Porter house. Alice came in carrying a box which she sat on the coffee table. The four women sat down with a drink before Alice explained.
    This came in the mail today. It was mailed from one of those shipping places out at LAX. I wanted to be with you guys when I opened it.
    Neither Bette nor Tina knew what to say. They sat looking as Alice opened the box. From it, she retrieved the Alethia outfit that Alex had worn during Mission Eliminate Tonya. The note that was enclosed was handwritten. Alex read it aloud:

    My Pal Al and Fellow Member of the Sisterhood of the Pen (and I dont mean the penitentiary),
    On our next mission, you get to wear the ugly clothes. I wanted to send them to you and quite frankly, I didnt want to travel with such unfashionable clothes in my luggage. You know how mothers tell their kids to wear clean underpants in case they are in an accident, well if Im in one I dont want this outfit in my possession. People might think I have no tastes.
    Im looking forward to the details of your evolving romance. Next time I am in LA, I will be prepared to see rings exchanged.

    There were no dry eyes among the four women sitting in the living room. How like Alex, to stop at the airport to mail the Alethia outfit before getting on a plane.

    Later in the evening, Kit and Shane also dropped by the house. The group sat around telling stories and sharing memories. Kit and Bette managed to bring everyone to tears, but with laughter this time as they shared stories of adventures that had involved Alex Novack.
    Bette and Tina kept their unspoken promise to Alex. They never revealed what Alex had told them about the loss of her wife.

    As Alex had promised, Bette was contacted by her attorney. Alex had, as she stated, left all of her possessions to Bette and Tina.

    The plane crash, which was much later determined to have been caused by a broken gas line which had been missed during the maintenance check, was a scene out of a Kathy Reichs novel. Due to the miracle of DNA some body parts were identified. Per Alexs instructions, they cremated the body parts that were recovered. The urn was retrieved from the mantle of Alexs condo. In it, lay the remains of Catherine. Alexs ashes were mixed with Catherines ashes and they were spread in the Atlantic ocean.
