    One Year Later—Senior Year

For every girl, it seemed as if life was moving too fast, but for no one did life move as fast as it did for Bette.  She’d been offered a scholarship to attend Stanford and play basketball in only a few months.  Helena, on the other hand, was offered a dramatic scholarship to UCLA, on the opposite end of the state.

Originally, Helena told Bette that it would be fine; they’d see each other as much as they could and talk on the phone every night.  But recently, Bette felt a shift in their relationship.

Was Helena trying to leave her?

Helena couldn’t stand it; the fear of losing Bette was consuming her.

Bette was going off to be this superstar basketball player at a college notable not only for its women’s athletics, but for academics as well.  She was so beyond Helena and Helena knew that.  Girls would be throwing themselves at her left and right and Bette deserved to have some fun.

Even though she loved Bette, she wanted her to be free.  Besides, she didn’t know how much she could take being without Bette and wondering what she was doing or whom she was with.

“Hey, Helena!” Bette shouted out.  Helena swallowed, being afraid of the convo.  She turned in the crowded hallway.

“Hey, baby.” Helena kissed Bette’s cheek.

“You want to hang out tonight.  I’m not busy and I’ll have an empty house.” Bette threw Helena a wink, enough to make Helena giggle.

“I wish I could but, I uh, I have to have dinner with my mother and my grandmother.”

“Okay…” Bette couldn’t hide the disappointment.

“So, I’ll see you later then.”

    “Maybe.  If your lucky.”

    Bette turned without another word.

“Hey, Bette.  Come back.”  Bette turned around to face her, but didn’t get close, “I want to spend time with you, but tonight isn’t going to work.”

“Well, when is it going to work?  I have been asking you to do stuff with me for months now, only to be turned down every time.  I want to know what’s going on.”

Helena led them to a corner.

    1. Oh, ash, I hope you come back and update this soon! I’ve been missing your stories about Helena & Bette! Please hurry hurry hurry…well as soon as your busy schedule allows!

    2. Ash, I so missed this story but I know how things can get so I am happy you posted an update and it sounds pretty much like relationships on Senior year of both high school and college. Some make it and some don’t. I really hope that Bette and Helena will make it in the future to appreciate how much they love each other.

    3. oh no…helena can go to berkeley, okay don’t know about their drama department…but B could go to UCLA…don’t they have a great bball program for women…don’t let them break-up..pwease!!!

    4. Boy, you sure weren’t kidding about the bleak future part… It’s good to see you writing again! I was missing me some belena and ecstatic when I saw an (two) updates from you. Trust me, I love drama but what I love more is the happy ending (:) so, ace your midterms and project and quickly save this mess!

    5. Helena’s not too bright is she? i get the whole paranoid thing, but get over it already. You don’t break up w/ Bette Porter w/out good reason. And being worried about what Bette might do when they are at separate schools is not a good reason. great update ash, but bleak indeed.
