    ONE AND ONLY

    CHAPTER 5


    Tina rubbed her eyes as she looked at the geography book she was supposed to be doing a couple of chapters from. It wasn’t that she couldn’t do this work – she just didn’t see the point in working as hard as she was supposed to for precious little reward. But this was the stick and not the carrot – this was time to knuckle down and for once – do what she was supposed to as a High School Junior – and that was get good grades before the real hard slog started in senior year.

    “Hey there “ Tina looked up and grinned at her best friend Helena “

    “How was London ?”

    “Marvellous – mother and I went to a lot of concerts and I shopped during the day and she did whatever deal she was in London to do – probably some major acquisition. So what’s happening with you and why the hell have I had to come into the LIBRARY to find you. I was shocked when Hannah told me where you were – I said it had to be a case of mistaken identity – but no – Tina Kennard is in the library  – and with a book as well – say it isn’t so”

    “It is so “

    “Terrible – do you want to come for a coffee ?”

    Tina sighed “I have to get this done “

    “Why ?”

    “My mothers were called to see Beck”

    “To praise you for how tight you wear your school shirts ?” Helena said grinning

    Tina forced a smile – Helena was a very out lesbian and she was trying to persuade Tina to sleep with her. Tina didn’t want to sleep with Helena – if she did sleep with anyone it would not be Helena Peabody . She had her doubts and fears about her sexuality but sleeping with Helena would only cause more trouble than it was worth. And Tina wasn’t that stupid.

    “To discuss me cheeking Roberts last week and giving him the V and a few other things – oh and the subject of my grades came up”

    “Painful ?” Helena said in sympathy

    “Very – grounded for the rest of the term and grades need to improve before I am allowed to go away “
